Intro to Arduino Class (again) v2

  • Jul 1, 2012 · 12:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We are splitting this class into two or three different weekends - Please update your RSVP depending on which is most convenient for you.

I am working on getting a larger location that will hold 100+ members for Arduino classes as they seem to be in high demand. Renting out a space can be costly but if everyone pitches in a few bucks, we can accommodate everyone. 100% of the donation goes to pay for the fees associated with running the club.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have a lot of new members since our last series of Arduino Classes so we thought it was time to post another "Getting Started" where we cover not only the basics, but get beyond the blinking LED and into some functions! If you've already attended any of the Arduino classes in the past, this one will be a good refresher and we'll be adding to it.

You will need:

A Laptop running the free Arduino software (see link below)

An Arduino Kit (Arduino board, USB Cable, LEDs, resistors, push-button switch, potentiometer)

(Tim Laren will have Arduino kits available on the day of the event)

Bring an extension cord and a power strip if you can.

Instructor: Michael Belanger, Annika O'Brien. Event Host - Black Design Studios.

A beginner's class on the Arduino Micro-controller with an equal focus on programming and electronics topics.

See this page for more information:

http://www.laroboticsclub.org/platforms/arduino/

We also have a forum set up for discussion that would probably work better than the comment section on Meet-up since the threads get archived here once the event is over.

Any questions can be answered over there from now on.

Sorry that I was late, but the information and the pace of the instructor was spot on.

Thank you Annika, Michael and Black design Associates for an awesome class.
Great format and pace - looking forward to attending more LA Robotics meetups.

I really enjoyed the class. I look forward to an intermediate and advanced class.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class, and the level of professionalism in which it was presented. I appreciated the pace of the class, the constant check for any questions and/or extra needed help (and immediate help was offered). Thank you all who helped make this possible. I very much look forward to the next class with the L.A. Robotics Club. Again, thank you!

    Now that was a Meetup!
Cool space, well prepared instruction, fine pacing and wonderfully friendly people.
Makes me wanna go do my homework for next time.
Thank you ever so much - Wendy and the boys.

Awesome class, As an intro class I especially liked how no one was left behind. If some one was stuck, Michael made an effort to get the person up to speed. My friends and I are will defiantly attend the next arduino class. Thanks to Michael, Annika, Tim and the rest of the group.

Maria-I'm also on the waiting (for a few days now) so I'm not sure it shows others on the waiting list.

I placed an order for one of the Arduino kits on the site but I am still only on the waiting list can I go to the class and just pick up the kit at least? How do i note that I want to pick it up there I chose COD and in store pick up and when it finished the order it said to indicate how I wanted to pick it up but there was no place for comments :)

Extension cords and chairs may be useful. We are trying to have everything available, but it can't hurt.

I barely joined this site and have only built a photovore robot, but w/ tons of instruction and prewritten codes. I am looking to understand and build a foundation in microcontrollers. Will this class do just that?

    June 27, 2012

  • Guy

Would you still like for us to bring chairs if we have them?

    June 26, 2012

  • Julie

@Tim - I just placed an order. Thank you! I look forward to meeting you and paying you for the kit on Sunday.

Micaela: The Arduino software is available at http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software or on my website at http://hacker.instanet.net/arduino/.

    June 25, 2012

  • Tim L.

Don't forget, if you need a kit, you can order one from me at http://hacker.instanet.net/Store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=12. You will select Store Pickup and COD. You will get the club price and no shipping cost. I will deliver the kit to the meetup and if there any question I will be there to help out.
If you order a kit from me, make sure you download the software before next Saturday so we can start the class on time and not have to wait for people to install the software.
