Halloween is passé. Day of the Dead: that's where it's at. From our frequent meeting spot at Trails Café in Griffith Park, we'll be heading to Olvera Street for their annual Dia de Los Muertos festival.

From Olvera Street we have several options. There's a Dia de Los Muertos art opening at Self-Help Graphics in East L.A. or we could ride out to grab some holiday-appropriate food. If anyone has suggestions, just let me know!

Once downtown, we may have to pay for parking in a lot. I'm hoping to get down there this week to scout availability of street parking. The lots around Olvera charge $8-$9 flat rate on Sundays. We can try to swing a "scooter rate" but greedy attendants have been sticklers for these things in the past, particularly during events.

This will be an all-scooter (or other motorized 2-wheeler) ride, appropriate for the 50cc scoots on up.

If you'd like to come skull-faced or decorate your scooter, that's great. My original plans to go all-out on my scoot got waylaid by illness!

Damn, thanks for that Gwen! We could definitely hit one of these later. Maybe Sunset Junction?

There is also a car show @ Lincoln Park, not so far from downtown. Here's a list of tons of Dia de los Muertos stuff going on... http://laeastside.com/2009/...

I've found a few events and festivals on the 1st and am checking out some more. This one looks promising: free food, music, etc.! http://is.gd/43hEr

I just posted a costume idea in the Doo-Dah Costume thread that would work for this ride too, if we want to get maximum milage (pardon the pun) from our costume $'s...

Quincy (& others): By "all-scooter," I meant this isn't limited to 125cc+ or to experienced riders. All are welcome, even those with 850cc Triumphs! It's black & white so totally event-appropriate.

There was a big Olvera St. festival last year. I've emailed about info for this year. They do nightly processionals.

I was thinking of planning a ride to El Tepeyac Cafe in East LA. They are supposed to have the best burritos in LA. Perhaps we can work it into the ride as a lunch stop.

thanks for organizing this eric. nice weather for the ride too bad the parking lot was a zoo.
    •  Now we know: Cathedral is the place to park downtown. Free parking for scooters! The city lots wouldn't even let us in. Otherwise nice ride and good destination. Unfortunately, I had to take off early. I didn't even get a churro!
