Hi all,

I just joined Meetup.com to find others in the Los Angeles metro area who are interested in riding. I just got a Vespa GTS 250ie and I don't really know others with scoots to ride with.

I sort of started this meetup by mistake by clicking the wrong thing, but I thought that I'd go through with it.
How about we meet in the Fern Dell parking lot at Griffith Park and take a nice ride along Mulholland west to Bev Hills, then make our way back via some sort of refreshment spot. It's all open for discussion that day as well.
The Fern Dell parking: Go north on FernDell dr., which is off of Los Feliz Bl just before it ends at Western Av. It is just east of the end of Western Av where it turns into Los Feliz Bl. Go up Fern Dell past the stop sign and past the little refreshment stand and just about 100' further is a big parking lot. That's where I'll be.

If anybody has any suggestions, let me know. I'm not the best group organizer but I'll do my best.

Thanks, Pete.

Hi everybody. Just wanted to let you know to call me if you're running late tomorrow. My cell phone # is [masked]. The signal is iffy there, but it does work most of the time. We may have to edit our route due to scooter sizes, safety, etc. We can discuss tomorrow. It'll be good to meet you all. Looks like we'll have a good group.

Hi, I'm really excited about this...still don't know if I can make it. The tail light on my bike is fickle...still trying to fix it. Originally I signed up as Goobergirl - but y'all can call me Natalie. Pete, you're doing a great job organizing it...accident or not.

Hi, Here's a link to a map of Fern Dell. The parking lot is before the first hairpin turn. The marker is past the entrance to the parking lot. Thanks, Pete. http://maps.google.com/maps...

Hi, I've increased the number of spots to 30. 10 was the default but it can be any number. If we get 30, then I'll up it. So glad we're getting some interested people. I think it'll be a lot of fun. Hey Eric, I recognize you picture from the Los Angeles scooter tag on MV. Good job. I'm glad the spot is moving a little east.

I don't know the details of the owner's access to the meetup page but I'm sure there's a way you can change the number of spots available in each meetup. Perhaps 10 is just the default because how would the page know how many people can go on a scoot? Besides other groups have parties of 50+ for various activities. But the organizers should decide how many scoots in the ride. As long as everyone follows basic road etiquete for group riding, more scoots is fine.

Maybe plan a ride on a day when an interesting event is happening and you can plan a ride to it. Decide on a meeting place where the ride can be a manageable length and an easy route considering that some scooters are less powerful than yours. Have the organizers be experienced riders and familiar with the area and route. It helps if a few of the group riders have Chatterbox.

Not sure yet. I had typed a narrative for this ride but only part of it appeared, when you click "read more" it just brings you to this page instead of the continuation of my little shpeal. Anyway, I'm open to any suggestions. I had typed to possible meet at the Fern Dell parking lot inside of Griffith Park off of Los Feliz Bl and Western Av. It may be too dark by that time of year, so I'll try to think of another spot. I live in Los Feliz. All suggestions welcome. Thanks, Pete.

Cool, Thanks Pete for taking the lead on this meetup business. I have about 11 names of a scooter crew - and there is also Modern Vespa if you are ever looking to "expand" Looking forward to the ride, where are we going?

Not quite yet. Open to suggestions. The group was kind of set up by mistake as I was looking for a group, if that makes any sense. I figured I'd just let it stay and get a group/ride going. It could even be on a weekend. The system automatically picked 6pm on a weekday.

Hey there. Glad someone decided to get a group going. Got any ideas about a route or length of ride?

Thanks to Pete for a fantastic time!! Great group of very friendly people, nice time was had by all. Can't wait to do it again!
    •  All who RSVP'd showed up. We had a great ride to Pasadena, had some lunch, rode back to Los Angeles and had coffee. It was a great group of people whom I wouldn't have met if not for Meetup.com. Thank you.
    •  I had a great time. It was informal and the people that attended were great. I will do this again in a heartbeat!
    •  Took a great route around the city. Stuck together as a group the whole way, keeping eyes out for light hang ups and such. Plus, got some good grub along the way. Neat group to scoot with!
    •  Good to meet everyone. I'm sure as we do more, we'll sort of refine what makes a good ride for everyone and how best to do it. It's a complicated thing, I guess.

What a great first ride. Cant wait to do it again.
    •  This was a great group ride. The pace and route were perfect for the 50cc scooters and waiting whenever the group got split up was super. All of the riders did a great job also. I've been on a number of group rides and this was definitely the smoothest and best coordinated. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks, Tazio aka Jon
