Here's the route I was thinking of Griffith Park -> Santa Monica -> Venice -> Dockweiler -> Manhattan Beach -> Hermosa Beach -> Redondo Beach.

Good things about the route:
- the speed limit along the route is good, one section by Dockweiler which might be 45, but slower there is fine
- some pretty places along the route, we can stop for lunch in Redondo and coffee somewhere on the way back

Bad things about the route:
- Unlike heading north, it's not all coastal, we're 2-4 blocks inland 80% of the time
- Plenty of lights in the beach communities.

We may still modify the route a bit, see discussion thread to participate in that.

Google has it as about 31 miles each way, or about 1.5 hours each way.

    The meeting place is a parking lot on Fern Dell in Griffith park, just up the hill from Los Feliz Blvd. Here's a map: http://snurl.com/48yca From Pete for our last meetup: "After you enter the park through the FernDell entrance off of Los Feliz Bl, go up straight past the stop sign. You'll pass a little food stand on the left. Keep going about 150' and there's a big parking lot on the left just before a white metal gate, which will be open."

    • “ Had a great time! Thanks to everyone for coming on such short notice. Eight of us made the trip down to Redondo Beach for some lunch and a coffee in Venice on the way back. Hope to see you all again soon. And enjoyed meeting the new guys, Don and Moz (sp?). ”
