The 32nd Pasadena Doo Dah Parade is January 18 and Mike Frankovich of NoHo Scooters suggested we put together a group of scooterists to ride in the parade. Other members have mentioned the parade to me as well.

Parade info is here:
http://www.pasadenado...

Riders are encouraged to decorate their scooters or dress in costumes or outlandish outfits but that's certainly not required. After the parade, we'll ride to another location for some eats.

There is a $10 fee per vehicle (charged by the parade organizers).

Some of these details will change as we get closer to the ride, but for now we'll meet at Trails on Fern Dell just inside Griffith Park and ride to Pasadena, where we'll likely meet up with some other riders at a location TBD. (I'll be there early for some coffee and a waffle!) I'll announce any changes as the details are worked out, but if there are any questions in advance, let me know.

The ride will leave Fern Dell at 9 sharp!

If you're in Pasadena or vicinity, meet at Raymond and Walnut in old town Pasadena at 10.

This is an all-scooters ride open to everyone, so feel free to invite your scootering pals, even if they're not meetup group members or to spread the word via the scooter groups and forums. Also, if you haven't yet, please check out our group riding tips before coming out:

Thanks! Hope to see you all there.

If our mechanic Jimmy does not have to work his other job Sunday, he will be bringing the NoHo Scooters van. Everyone can throw our helmets and street clothes (if you are going in costume) in the van. I don't know if they will let us ride without helmets. I will know tomorrow if Jimmy can drive the van.

Speaking of cheap, I've given up on the fire suit idea because it costs $200. Instead, I'll be dressed as a member of Devo (http://www.freewilliamsburg...). It's simple, cheap and somewhat scooter-related (http://www.youtube.com/watc...).

Hey, that I like (because it's easy and cheap!). Wonder how many kazoos we'd need. I think a number of non-Meetup members are planning on riding out with us or being there.

Someone at Modern Buddy suggested we all go as the North American Rolling Scooters Band and that every one get themselves a kazoo. Make a sign for the lead scooter. Perhaps the conductor could ride in the side car???? Doesn't matter what we play... Born to be Wild... Theme from Monty Python... whatever... the wackier the better... but we can all do it together. Sounds simple, fun, and something everyone can do together...

I'll head to the surplus store tomorrow to start trying to put together my look, I'm really liking the Mad Max idea. And I love Adam's firesuit idea! Adam, I wonder what you could do with your bike to make it match the suit? Your photo shows a red bike, so you're almost riding a fire truck. Maybe you need some sort of rotating/flashing light? And/or a siren?

I was actually at the army/navy store on Santa Monica and Vine yesterday and I was seriously considering buying the fire suit on display. http://wwwdelivery.supersto...

One thing I was thinking about doing, which might interest to you guys, since it's pretty cool and pretty easy is doing a "rat bike" or "survival bike" thing. A scooter would be 20x cooler. If you haven't seen them, just think "Mad Max". A trip to the surplus store, a trip to somewhere that sells burlap sacks, and I'm on my way... Wrap my bike up with burlap pieces, maybe some inner tubes, wear some mutilated camo clothing, and see if I can learn to drive with a gas mask. Anyone else?

I was thinking of doing pony cutouts to hang along side the scoot and dress up like an equestrian. It could be modified for to cowboys and cowgirls too.

a great time! What a big fun group of fellow scooterists, and a special thanks to Eric and Mike from No Ho Scooters, thanks for all your hard work putting this together
    •  What a great event. Sooooo much fun!!! And so nice to meet everyone. People are nice and polite and funny online and it totally carries through to the real world. Very nice. This was my first group ride and to those who have never scooted en masse... ya gotta try it! The more the merrier definitely is the phrase to use here. As for the Doo Dah Parade... what an amazing event. Rarely do you see such a showing of free spirit and creativity. Absolutely fantastic. And to ride with 40 other scooters, decorated or costumed, horns honking, amidst crowds 10 deep lining both sides of the streets and hanging out of windows cheering... what an experience. I can't wait for next year. Thanks to everyone who was there today. And thanks to Pete, Mike and Eric for organizing. I had a great time and look forward to our next ride together.
    •  Such fun! Can't wait 'til next year!
    •  The parade was awesome, what a bizarre menagerie of outrageous folk. Had a great time with the group, driving in our little circles, having the onlookers throwing tortillas and marshmallows at us! Great to meet some new people. And our lunch at Luigi Ortega's was quite an experience.
    •  This was a great time for all. Almost everyone had a costume or a theme. Many different scooters. Only negative is when I got some of us a little lost on the way back after taking a wrong turn. It was a nice day for riding, at least.

More fun than I even imagined it would be. Everyone is super nice and the scooters! the scooters were amazing. We had fun being in the parade - and I can't wait to go on another LA Scooter meet-up! Thank you, everyone, for being sooo fun and sooo nice, and especially to Eric and Mike for your invitation to the rest of us scooterists! Loved it! lisa marie
    •  It was soooo much fun!!! I loved the reactions we got from the folks on the side lines! Suggest that next year we get together and practice doing figure 8's at a parking lot. The round and round was fun but did get a bit tiresome after while. I'll sign up for next year!!! =}
    •  Awesome turnout on a perfect day!
