Halloween is passé. Day of the Dead: that's where it's at. From our frequent meeting spot at Trails Café in Griffith Park, we'll be heading to Olvera Street for their annual Dia de Los Muertos festival. http://www.cityofla. From Olvera Street we have several options. There's a Dia de Los Muertos art opening at Self-Help Graphics in East L.A. or we could ride out to grab some holiday-appropriate food. If anyone has suggestions, just let me know! http://www.selfhelpg Once downtown, we may have to pay for parking in a lot. I'm hoping to get down there this week to scout availability of street parking. The lots around Olvera charge $8-$9 flat rate on Sundays. We can try to swing a "scooter rate" but greedy attendants have been sticklers for these things in the past, particularly during events. This will be an all-scooter (or other motorized 2-wheeler) ride, appropriate for the 50cc scoots on up. If you'd like to come skull-faced or decorate your scooter, that's great. My original plans to go all-out on my scoot got waylaid by illness! Check back here for location and other details. If you RSVP "yes" or "maybe" you will be included in email updates for this event. Feel free to email me with questions or to post them in the comments below. If you have yet to do so, please read our Group Riding Tips & Guidelines: |

Twice a year The Brewery, a Los Angeles art colony consisting of 100+ live-in artist lofts and studio spaces, opens it's collective doors to the public for a day of strolling through the much varied art. The Brewery is located at 2100 North Main Street, 90031 in downtown LA. The plan is to arrange an enjoyable route to the event with various rendezvous points along the way so that people scooting from different locals can join up and we all arrive as one group. Once we arrive we can take a few hours to each do our own thing and enjoy the art. Last time we went people left as they felt like it. So those who prefer can leave as a group, or if you feel like cutting out earlier, do as you wish. I know I am always one of the last to leave. (As I type this, I'm thinking a side trip to Philippe's might be in order!) The event takes place on both October 24th (Sat) and 25th (Sun). We will ride on the 24th with the 25th being our rain date. Food and beverages are sold at the event. We'll meet at our usual spot, the Trails Café at Fern Dell, 10:30am. As usual: If this is your first time riding with us or if you somehow have not read these yet, please read the Group Riding Tips & Guidelines: This is a great fun day and one of my favorite things to do in Los Angeles. Even if I didn't get to ride my scooter there! I hope many of you will come. Cheers. Skootz |

This is the first of what I hope will be many LA Scooter Group Meal on Wheels rides. A couple of people have suggested similar rides to this, so I thought I'd put it into action. The specific details of this ride are still being worked out but here is the idea: On the afternoon of Sunday, September 27th, we will take a relaxed ride to 2 or 3 different dining locations: 1) for an appetizer, 2) for a main course, and 3) for dessert. Where we will dine on this particular ride has not been decided yet, and that is where you come in... We want every LA Scooter Group member to feel involved, so between now and September 19th please post your suggestions for great places to eat in the comment area for this ride (below). It could be a great location, a place with a particular item on the menu that is to die for, or something else special or unique that makes you love to go there. Three dining locations will be chosen, and a route put together based on your suggestions. This way we will all get to discover something new, which is always fun. Suggested locations that don't get chosen for this ride will be kept in mind for future Meal on Wheels rides. The locations we visit don't have to be fancy pants establishments. In fact, casual places with good grub are ideal; restaurants, bars, local holes in the wall, Best of LA winners, it's all good. Here are some things to keep in mind: 1) Scooter parking: Wherever we go we'll need to have parking for our scooters near by. This is a new way for us to put together a ride and one that I think can be very fun (and tasty) for all of us. I look forward to seeing everyones favorite restaurant and food suggestions. In fact I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! ==================== Without further ado, the selections for this Meals on Wheels ride are... drum roll please... The Oinkster Yes, we're heading East for a change! From our usual spot, The Trails Cafe at Fern Dell (so you can get some food to tide you over until we start eating...), our route begins by taking us to Eagle Rock and the The Oinkster! Famous for everything they serve being made in-house – their pastrami, their pulled-pork, even their ketchup! After we bulk up there for the next leg of the journey, we continue east and ride to... another drum roll please... It's off to old Route 66 and to The Fair Oaks Soda Fountain where since 1915 people have cooled off on hot days with some of their amazing, old school, fountain drinks and ice cream. If you've never been, you're in for a cool, relaxing treat. Best leave the diet plan at home... From Fair Oaks we will take a relaxing, full-bellied, ride back to Fern Dell where the ride began. Here is the route. It may be modified slightly before Sunday. Please take a fresh read of our group riding guidelines so everyone is on the same page when it comes to safe group riding. I look forward to seeing everyone Sunday and to a day of good food and riding! |

"Spectators Ready, set, race! Red Bull Soapbox Race is coming to Los Angeles. The race will be held at 5th & Grand in Downtown LA. Pits open at 11am, First Race at 1pm." Maybe you've seen the awesome commercials or YouTube videos. It's the Red Bull Soapbox Derby. Meet at Trails Cafe in Griffith Park, 10am. We may have a second meetup on the east side on our way downtown if anyone wants one. Event is free. Bring cash for food concessions there if you like. Think I'll be heading to Würstkuche afterwards. This is a good ride for all size scooters and all riders and the event should be pretty great. Route Map If you have not done so, please read our Group Riding Tips and Guidelines: |

Ride to the screening of the Rosemary's Baby at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Ride meets at NoHo Scooters at 5:30 PM and leaves at 5:45 PM. Be sure to bring food, drink, a blanket, and a low chair. It costs $10 to get in, and we get rock star parking with our scooters. For more info see their website at cemeteryscreenings.c This is a good ride for all size scooters and riders of all levels of experience. Just keep in mind that you'll be riding home through Hollywood at night. There's a lot of traffic and it gets a little crazy. If you don't have a low chair, you'll definitely want some sort of ground covering (the ground always gets wet with dew there!) and something to lean on. If this is your first time riding with us, please read the Group Riding Tips and Guidelines. (Sorry for the last minute scheduling, was out of town and this snuck up on me!) |

Hey there MeetUp friends. Here is a nice twisty-turny canyon ride that doesn't take us quite so far away from home. The day will start at our usual meetup spot, The Trails Cafe at Fern Dell, where we will gather, chat, drink coffee, eat amazing baked goods... from there we will head off to Mulholland Drive which we will follow all the way to Franklin Canyon Resevoir, then down to Sunset Blvd. We'll follow Sunset to the PCH, up the PCH to Topanga Canyon, Topanga Cyn to Mulholland Hwy. and then (this is the short loop part), rather than continuing out Mulholland as we often do, we will loop back along Old Topanga Canyon, a beautiful, really twisty, old tree covered route, that takes us back to the PCH. At the PCH we will take a rest at the Reel Inn where we can enjoy food and beverage. Then it's off for the more relaxed return leg of the ride which will take us down the PCH, and Ocean Front Ave before looping back along Main Street, up Montana Ave, back to Sunset Blvd, then up Sepulveda to Mulholland Dr. once again. We'll follow Mulholland back to Laurel Canyon and people can disperse as they wish along the way as is easiest for them to get home. This is a great day of challenging, twisty, turny, riding, and beautiful scenery that doesn't take us quite so far from home, or last quite so long, as some of our other canyon routes. This ride is recommended for experienced, confident riders, who are used to the gravel and other challenges that one can encounter in canyon riding. Speeds on the PCH can get up to 55mph+ so this ride is recommended for 110cc scooters and higher. Please take a moment to read the group riding guidelines as on these twisty roads correct staggered formation and switching to single file in the tight corners, is even more important for safety. MeetUp time is 10am rolling out at 11am latest. Thanks everyone! Hope to see many of you there! Skootz |

I know a few people missed last week's trip to Hollywood Forever and wanted some folks to go with, and I'm heading there again this Sunday to see Ferris Bueller's Day Off. So come and join us! I'm coming from Venice so anyone who wants to ride over with me from the west side, we can do that. If people want to meet and ride over from some other spot, let me know. Otherwise we can just meet at the cemetery. I'll send out my cell phone number to anyone who RSVPs so you can find us there. Movie starts at 8, gates open at 6:30. Usually a good idea to get there no later than 7:15 to 7:30. I recommend bringing picnic food and drink! For more info, check out Hollywood Forever Cemetery Movies. Quinxy |

If you have yet to attend a scooter rally, this is one of the best and biggest in the area. This is a two day rally—this meetup is for SUNDAY. We'll meet up at Trails in Griffith Park and take an inland route down to the main meetup point in Santa Monica. This ride is the famous beach cities cruise through the South Bay. As with Saturday's event, this is recommended for intermediate riders on 100cc or larger scooters. Though we're organizing the ride to the event, the actual rally is run by other clubs. These can get a little fast and a little chaotic. It's a good first rally, though! The ride's ending location is TBD; it's usually a restaurant, bar or other spot with some food and music. Be aware that we may not leave as a single group! There's an evening event, but most of us will be heading back north before that. If you're coming from Pasadena, the SFV or elsewhere, we may arrange earlier meetups. Updates and more info in the comments on the page for this meetup. More info: Meetup and RSVP info for SATURDAY's ride: If this its your first ride with us or if you have not done so yet, please read our Group Riding Tips & Guidelines: Since this is a first ride or rally for a lot of you, here's what to expect: Again, email me or post here with any questions, concerns or comments! |

If you have yet to attend a scooter rally, this is one of the best and biggest in the area. This is a two day rally—this meetup is for SATURDAY. We'll meet up at Trails in Griffith Park and take an inland route down to the main meetup point in Torrance. From there, we'll join a hundred or more other scooterists for a great ride around the beautiful Palos Verdes peninsula. This is recommended for intermediate riders on 100cc or larger scooters. Though we're organizing the ride to the event, the actual rally is run by other clubs. These can get a little fast and a little chaotic. It's a good first rally, though!
