Swerve 'N' Curve 14 RALLY & PARTY!

  • August 24, 2013 · 9:30 AM

The LASG will once again be heading to the beach to join the South Bay Scooter Club for their yearly rally extravaganza, Swerve 'N' Curve. For many LASG members, this is their first scooter rally. It's a great chance to meet riders from all over the region, see an amazing array of scooters, and take a ride around the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula.

This is one of the biggest and most-loved events we do all year! The end-of-ride party was particularly memorable. Check out last year's event and photos here: Swerve 'N' Curve 13.

THIS MEETUP IS FOR THE LASG RIDE TO SWERVE 'N' CURVE ON AUGUST 24. PLEASE DO NOT RSVP UNLESS YOU INTEND TO RIDE TO THE EVENT WITH LASG. If you're meeting up in Torrance, we'll see you there!

Here are the details for the Saturday ride and party from the Swerve 'N' Curve website:

11AM: Meet at TONY ROMA'S restaurant in Torrance (corner of Crenshaw & Lomita Blvds). MAPS will be given out before the ride, so be sure to get one. PLEASE GAS UP BEFORE THE RIDE, as we will NOT be stopping for gas on the route.

12noon: Ride leaves for the original, and often-copied, SOUTH BAY SWERVE 'N' CURVE ROUTE through Palos Verdes.

After doing the beautiful Swerve N Curve route, we will again be ending the ride at the home of South Bay Scooter Club member, Mac McClellan. Mac has a great party backyard at his house, on an acre and a half of land just behind the Wayfarer's Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes. Be sure to bring your bathing suits as Mac has invited everyone to use his nice-sized swimming pool and lounge area, where the band, THE CALIFORNIA CELTS, and a DJ, will be playing for our entertainment!!

FREE food and drinks will also be served; Mac will be serving keg beer for everyone to enjoy, as well.

There will also be a Scooter Show, with awards for Best Vintage & Best Modern Scooter given out after the judging.

Should be a Swerve N Curve Party for the history books, so don't miss it!

Please note that the Swerve 'n' Curve rally and party are organized by the South Bay Scooter Club, not LA Scooter Group. We organize the ride there and usually ride and return in smaller groups.

Pre-order your Swerve 'N' Curve Rally Packs! Your rally pack will be set aside with your name on it, and you can be assured your shirt size won't sell out. This year's Rally Packs will include a T-Shirt, a Patch, a Pin, a free Raffle Ticket, and a Meal Ticket for the Swerve N Curve Party on Saturday. http://swervencurve.com/rallypacks.html

LASG Itinerary:

Meet at Ralph's on Sepulveda at 9:30am and depart by 10:00am.

The route to the South Bay is friendly for scooters over 100cc.

  • At Ralph's please park near north side of lot, along La Tijera
  • The closest gas stations are on Manchester Blvd., north of our meetup. There's a Mobil to the west and a Chevron to the east.

Come early if you want to make sure to get fully caffeinated before we depart. Please don't show up at 9:45 expecting to have time to wait in line and get donuts.

We'll be doing the noon Swerve ride and afternoon party, then heading back in the late afternoon. (There is also a Friday night event, which we will not be organizing an official ride to.)

The Swerve ride will end at the party in Palos Verdes. Food and drink will be provided by rally sponsor. Since we'll likely be leaving separately or in small groups, everyone should know how to get home from there! The party is close to Wayfarer's Chapel (5755 Palos Verdes Drive South, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA).

That was a fun and memorable ride. I can't believe how nice everyone was. Even though I come from South OC it was really worth meeting fellow scooter enthusiast. I have never broken so many laws in one day on one ride in my life. I hope nobody got hurt. Already looking forward to the next get together. Peace.

My annual group ride! I loved seeing what-looked-like a mile of scooters in front of me. Every ride helps me gain some new confidence / muscle-memory. Thanks to everyone for showing up with all your friendly faces and welcoming hearts.

What an awesome gathering of scooter junkies, enjoying a day of riding, commingling, and having fun! Thanks to Mario, who pulled it all together, and HUGE thanks to Mac for your gracious hospitality!!! Also just as important, ALL the sweepers, blockers, and all else who pitched in to endure that no one was left behind, and all arrived safely!!! Helmets off for stepping up to the challenge!!!

Perhaps the enivietable waits dragged it- but there needed to be more riding- But everyone was terrific the locations were terrific and the party was a blast.! The power of 200+ riders was fantastic! Thanks to our leaders and blockers!!!

What it lacked in length, it more than made up for in beauty and comradrie.

When I was a boy, my father put up a poster in my bed room that had a picture of two Irish Setter dogs, and the caption read, "To double your joy, divide it with someone"

Well a ride like this ride takes that idea to exponential proportions!

Must. Resist. Urge. To. Make. Math. Puns. But yes, it was fun to be able to share the essential PV riding experience with scooterists from throughout Southern California.

We are all forgetting to give credit where credit is really due. Big, big, huge thanks to the event organizer, Mario Artavia From South Bay scooter club. And much gratitude to all the event blockers, sweepers, helpers, cleaners, and everyone else who helped with the ride and party.

From my vantage point as a ride participant, this year's ride seemed to be very well organized and executed. It was one of the best run big rides I've been on.

Mario, thanks for putting this together every year. Sometimes it is the only opportunity we get to see old friends all year long. It is a celebration of our local scooting community, a chance for us all to be together at one place and time. Big kudos for doing it. Cheers!

And thanks to the party host Mac McClellan. You are a brave soul my friend to have over 200 Scooterheads have the run of your backyard. But thank you for doing so. Its is a beautiful abode.

    http://goo.gl/maps/T6ixs

    1 · August 23, 2013

    • Rusty

A very valid point. That said, my priorities are based on the storage space constraints of my Vespa. (My Burgman woudn't merely easily stow a GPS, I could probably fit a GPS satellite in the under-seat storage space as well, if the solar panels weren't deployed.)

      1 · August 23, 2013

    • Liam

That would make for some very POd GPS users, ypu riding around with a satellite in your trunk and all.

New meetup location: Ralph's on Sepulveda near LAX!
8824 South Sepulveda Blvd. Los Angeles, CA
There is a Sbux here and across street.
The address is a bit weird as there are odd & even addresses on this side of street. It's southwest of La Tijera and Sepulveda.

Try to park on north end of lot, near La Tijera. That's where we'll gather and depart.

Parking lot of Bed Bath & Beyond along Sepulveda & La Tiejera may be a good spot. It accommodated the Shuttle Endeavor and it crowd, plus there's Starbucks and many food/grocery stores....and a gas station a block away. Can't we just take Sepulveda all the way down to Torrance?
