SEMTECH FOR THE REST OF US: So, you're interested enough in Web 3.0/Semantic Web to come to a Meetup. You know that people are talking about it, but you aren't exactly sure why. What Is it really? And what is it not? What's the value? What are all these acronyms people keep talking about: RDF, OWL, SPARQL? What's a "triple" and why should you care? Does this have anything to do with "linked data"? Maybe you already know the answers to these questions, but when you talk about SemWeb to friends and colleagues, they back slowly away... At this Meetup, we'll address some of these core questions in an easy-to-understand way – even if you have never seen a line of computer code. Attendees will learn: - The basics of core Semantic Technologies - How the technologies are being used today - More technical folks will also learn some helpful ways to simply and clearly explain SemTech to their favorite business user, web developer or barrista!
THE REAL WORLD & REVENUE: As a news industry veteran and serial entrepreneur, Neil Budde has pioneered the adoption of many new technologies in the delivery of content to consumers. It is no surprise then that he was among the first to harness the power of OpenCalais and other semantic technologies to streamline content operations and improve the reader experience n DailyMe.com. Attendees will learn:: - How Neil and his team used semantic technologies to provide DailyMe readers with a new and unprecedented level of personalization - How they took the next step, creating the first fully transparent reader analytics service called Newstogram. - How Newstogram is helping news editors understand what their users are really interested in and giving them the tools to provide each user with the news he or she really wants. About Neil Budde: Neil has significantly influenced the online news space throughout his career. He was the founding Editor and Publisher of The Wall Street Journal Online, having formulated the original idea for the site and developed it into one of the most successful subscription news sites. He would later build Yahoo! News into the No. 1 news provider on the web and then serve as Vice President and Editor in Chief of Yahoo! News, Finance and Sports. Before founding The Wall Street Journal Online, Budde was Deputy Editorial Director for Dow Jones News/Retrieval and spent a decade in various editorial roles at three daily newspapers. He is Vice President/Treasurer of the Online News Association.
