Pairing with Triples. Using Semantics to provide a better user experience

Joint LAPHP / LA SemanticWeb event.

During this presentation we'll use MarkLogic's RDF triple store and NoSQL database along with its  SPARQL features to demonstrate how these technologies can be used to enrich an application and provide a better user experience. The discussion will focus on how a "wine and cheese pairing" website was built to perform full text search across unstructured and semi-structured data. The application will simultaneously search and leverage facts stored in a triple store to make inferences, in this case, about food and beverage pairings. In fact, the suggested wine and cheese pairings will be served!

MarkLogic is an Enterprise NoSQL database with integrated search and semantic features. It's  a document-centric, schema-agnostic, structure-aware, clustered, transactional, secure, database server with built-in search and a full suite of application services in a unified system.

Speaker BIO - Michael Malgeri is a Principal Technologist with MarkLogic. He works with companies to match their enterprise big data requirements with NoSQL and semantic technologies to reduce costs, automate processes,  find new opportunities and create applications that bring high value to end users and businesses.

In his spare time, he promotes the value of innovation and honest business practices to young people with a current focus on an educational outreach program in Africa...remotely of course :)

This event is kindly hosted by Demand Media.

Food and beverages will be provided so that we don't listen to a great talk on an empty stomach :)
