A Slow Walk On Broadway

  • Apr 5, 2014 · 9:00 AM
  • Parking lot 3rd and Hill St

Take the time to shoot the streets the way they are supposed to be done. Slow down and learn to love L.A.,,, we have done this  a million times before.. Everyone has,,, but we do it different.

chris, I am still on the wait list for tomorow and love to join you in future for street photography. I have a Sony A7r with 55mm f1.8 lens and planning to buy either a 35mm or 24-70 lens. Can I use my 55mm lens for now? And if not, which lens do you recommend for street photography and why? Thx.

    April 4, 2014

    • Chris F.

I forgot to mention,, The 50mm are among the fastest lenses , and the sharpest with the least distortion,, and the most reasonably priced. They are the favorites of portrait shooters for the beautiful bokeh they can produce and the smoothly receding depth of field

      April 4, 2014

    • Chris F.

Don't disrespect the lowly 50mm. Those that know how to use them, love them.

Thank you Chris for including me in this photo shoot and answering my question regarding the right lens. I will bring my 55mm and wait for Sony to come up with a better 24-70 lens with f2.8 in near future. Thx.

    April 4, 2014

  • Gina

Chris, what range of lens you recommend to bring? Flash? Thsnks!

    April 3, 2014

    • Chris F.

      The[masked] is an excellent lens.

      April 4, 2014

    • Chris F.

We just had 2 people drop from the list,,, you are now on it ..

      April 4, 2014

  • Chris F.

Those who have a history of showing up always have priority over those who do not,,,

Chris, thanks for the add to April 5th confirmed status. As I wrote earlier this week, I mistakenly signed up for APril 5th instead of APril 12th. I will change my RSVP to NO for this Saturday as I really can't make it and hope to be waitlisted for 12th. BTW, remember the L.A. Marathon is on this Saturday. May affect travel times.

  • Tony C

First time with this group, look forward to a good time and capturing some nice shots

    April 1, 2014

  • Mark

I'm on the wait list for the April 5 shoot but cannot make the April 12th one. Does anyone want to switch (if that is allowable)?

    March 18, 2014

    • Chris F.

Sure,, if you can work it . That's between you and them. I don't have any problem with it

      March 18, 2014

    • Chris F.

Now you are on the list Mark..

      March 30, 2014

  • Val B.

I am sorry to miss this event. I am working for the next three Saturdays on a feature film. I will catch you some events after April 23rd.

    March 28, 2014

  • Chris F.

The RSVPs for this are now closed ... the wait list is still open... If your status changes and you cant go or decide not to go,, please change your RSVP to a "NO" in time for someone else to take your place and move up on the lists .

    That's my beat.

You can access Metro routes online,,

    March 16, 2014

  • Chris F.

Everyone in this group is advised to pick up a map of Los Angeles Civic Center. As well as a map of Los Angeles in general.. Keep it with your camera gear..

    March 16, 2014

  • Tom E.

    Chris,
Do you know which Metro Station is close to 3rd and Hill?

    March 15, 2014

    • Galen

The closest Metro Station to 3rd and Hill is the Pershing Square Station, you walk on Hill St to 3rd St about 2 blocks.

      March 16, 2014

    • Chris F.

      either one gets you there

      March 16, 2014

  • Chris F.

I've been getting questions like " what kinds of things do we shoot". The best place to answer is here ...we shoot almost everything. We look for the iconic and the ironic, the sometimes humorous and... strange.. .Street photography at its best opens windows on humanity,,,,, What we do not shoot are photos of each other,, nor do we post them here online.. I know some groups do that,,, this group does not.. Any questions just ask,,,

    March 16, 2014

  • Chris F.

If there is an interest I will do another one of these for those that are on the wait list,,,

    March 15, 2014

  • Chris F.

Those on the waiting list.. You will be moved up if others cancel out.. Those who RSVP'd YES,, if you find that you cant attend please done wait toll the last to change your RSVP.. ... Please allow someone else a chance to attend..

Chris, are you familiar with PetaPixel? There's a great article in today's post about the new ban in Hungary against taking pictures of people without their permission and how it affects street photographers. If you give me your email address I will forward it if you have an interest.

my first outing with the group. anything special to bring besides my camera? How long do outings usually last?

    1 · March 15, 2014

    • Chris F.

They usually last several hours . I generally keep shooting long after , For street shooting less is best. You don't want to show up with 3 cameras and a bag of gear. I try my best NOT to look like a photographer, Depends on the subject and intent of the outing,,, The intent and reason for being there .. For this one,,, I would say one camera and 1 lens,,,

      March 15, 2014

    • Chris F.

If you have a 24-70 or something in that range,, I would say perfect ,

      March 15, 2014

  • Daniel S.

    Would love to join

    March 12, 2014

  • Antoinette

Chris, I took some "clandestine" shots in Bahrain I'll show you.

    March 12, 2014

    • Chris F.

Excellent,,, I look forward to seeing them...

      March 12, 2014

  • Chris F.

Seriously,,, you cant do street photography if you show up looking like a paparazzi or a war photographer,,, it just doesn't work.. People will run away from you ... leave the scary stuff at home.

    March 12, 2014

  • Chris F.

Parking is easy,, Metro access is easy.. we are going to work on intuitive shooting.. No fussy over thinking . See it shoot it . We will try very hard not to look like photographers. That means a min of gear. No flash. 1 camera, 1 lens.
