It was a lot of fun,, the Metro is now my preffered method of travel in L.A. . You guys who didnt show up really missed out. So,,, lets do it again,, I see almost unlimited possibilities , Larry and Jaime were excellent event hosts and Pat was a pleasure to shoot with. Great seeing Rick there and Katrina was a pro as usual. It was a good group. Many familiar faces and good photographers.

Rick: In front of the Subway Sandwich Shop in Union Station next to the "new starbucks" they opened. =) Does that clear it up?

    May 13, 2011

  • rick S.

Need some clarification Meet in front of the Subway at Union Station on the Metro platform or upstairs in Union Station
at the double doors that say Metro Line Thanks!

I will be taking the Gold Line from the Pasadena "Sierra Madre Villa" station at 11:24.. I will be at the station at 11 AM, parking is free, The Gold Line is a great way to get from the Pasadena or East L.A. area to Union Station.
We will arrive at Union Station at 11:56,,

I really thought about that larry but i was thinking about this group and the idea of street photography. An actual art tour being led by historians puts limits. Whereas this gives us a bit more freedom

    May 13, 2011

  • Chris F.

Might be an idea,, but I prefer the "Free Range " approach.

Hey Larry we did this with LA Inc. I would like to do it again but I'll be in Vegas this weekend.
Are you going to that short movie and slide show of our photos on the 21st? hosted by LA Inc.

in the future if we ever plan this again set it up with the docent tours they supply everything with a tour and parking at the North Hollywood station is free and all tickets are provived with the tour and guide...FREE! need to reserve a tour...FREE!

We are hitting three stations, approximately spending 45 minutes at each station shooting, depending on how long people need. The Metro Tour will take about 4 hours altogether.

    May 11, 2011

Approximately how long will this Metro Tour last?

Chris: I couldn't have done this one without Larry. He's the pro when it comes to the metro ;)

Ack. I totally forgot to mention parking in the email. There are a variety of lots for 5 dollars on the weekend in Downtown LA if you don't mind walking a bit otherwise take the metro into Union Station. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND parking at union station, that will cost you 14 dollars.

When doing candid street shots of people always make sure you have a "backdoor" , a retreat.

    April 28, 2011

  • rick S.

I would be a little reluctant to shoot inside a car. There are a lot of folks who don't want their picture taken and are in a situation were that can't move away...plus there are a lot of unbalanced folks...just my 2 cents.

Jorge: Thanks for that info! This event will focus in and around the stations, although we are travelling on the metro itself. During those times, I advise we split up in the group into seperate cars. Photography can be taken within the car, as long as not utilized for commercial use, and as long as the safety of yourself and others are not endangered.

To reinforce Rick and Jamie's statements, go to page 7:[masked] Photography and Recording.

    Have fun!

    April 28, 2011

  • Chris F.

Also,,, be careful on the Metro where you point your camera. Remember you're in a closed area . We will go over a few safety topics before the start .

The key to this will be no flash and no tripods, and the other key is that we are indeed going to be paying members to utilize the metro. :)

    April 3, 2011

  • rick S.

I have been shooting the Metro stations for a long time. I have done long exposures of the Tunnels, etc...no flashing no tripods but that's about it...everyone including Sheriff and "engineers" have been very nice.

LA Metro allows photographing. There is no problems. I have made sure of this in the past. I am going to increase to 20.

I had to limit the RSVP's for this group because we will be on the metro, and not knowing how stringent LA is about photographs on the metro ;)
