So here's a guy many of you might know about, but I thought I'd share with everyone. He's a magnum photographer (yes, I'm a Magnum fanboy). He shoots close, wide, with flash, and most of his shots are prefocused. He's not really likable, but in the video he does say that he sees everyone as his friend. Maybe his viewfinder is rose-colored.
He doesn't just shoot NYC. His work shooting the Yakuza in Japan is exceptional. His set-up fashion shots are usually very sexy and evocative. Poke around the gallery list to see some of his other work. Here's a quick video of his shooting in NYC: http://www.youtube.co... Here's his issue of Magnum magazine/essay 'Fashion' http://inmotion.magnu... Here's his gallery list: http://www.magnumphot... |

Wow Scott! Thank you so much for posting, this is really really cool.
I liked his definition of street photography "if you can smell the street by looking at the photo it's a street photograph". lol. It goes to show you need "balls" or "ovaries" to get the shot you want. I don't particularly like Bruce Gilden's style but I can appreciate the challenge it takes to get them. I could never do that because I don't have the guts. lol. |
