We will walk next door to the theater at about 7:15 to see the Rainmaker. The play starts at 7:30pm, the box office opens 30 minutes before the show. Seating is open. When you RSVP let me know if you are joining us for dinner.
PLEASE don't RSVP 'Yes' unless you intend to purchase a ticket immediately; this is the last month for the play and several weekends are already sold out on the discount sites. The LAWS Attendance Policy applies to this event.
The Play: N. Richard Nash's The Rainmaker has it all: faith, love, humor, emotion and even a little magic. Farm girl Lizzie Curry is best described as "plain." Her marriage prospects and dreams of escape are as dry as her family's drought-ridden farm. Her dad and brothers' efforts to marry her off are laughable. Enter the fast-thinking, smooth-talking "rainmaker" Starbuck, who could solve both the romantic issue and drought problem. Lizzie's father gives the man the last of the family's savings and holds onto his hat. Will Starbuck turn out to be a con man and a liar, or is he a hero with magical powers? Nash's funny and poignant American tale brings out the true power of hope during hard times. Rainmaker is a LA Times Critics Choice and Ovation Recommended.
