Volunteer Action for Aging is designed to assist frail low income seniors and disabled adults by supporting their efforts to maintain independence in their homes and communities.
Current Volunteer Opportunities include:
Friendly Visitor Program: Help reduce loneliness and provide social interaction by visiting monthly or weekly with a homebound senior or disabled adult.
Friendly Phone Call Program: Call a homebound senior or disabled adult in an effort to offer support, conversation and companionship.
Want to help but limited on time? Call us to learn about our Serve days, Thanksgiving meal delivery event, Letter to the Troops and other projects designed to assist frail low income and disabled adults.
Interested, and want to hear first hand how rewarding it can be volunteering with seniors? Join us for our volunteer networking discussion groups; current dates are listed below. Our networking workshops provide an excellent opportunity to learn and share creative ideas and stories with other volunteers.
We are excited to announce that on May 5th we will have a guest speaker from the Department of Mental Health to discuss suicide prevention. On June 28th VAA welcomes guest speaker Rosemary Lewallen, an Older Adult Strategic Planning Coordinator from the City of Long Beach. Ms Lewallen will join us to discuss Elder Abuse, all are encouraged to attend.
