VOLUNTEER TO SERVE FOOD TO THE HOMELESS AND WORKING POOR IN DOWNTOWN LONG BEACH

The UCO Drop-in-Center is a community center for homeless people and the working poor in down town Long Beach. It provides a haven from the weather and the harsh conditions of the streets on Sunday afternoons. For full details check out http://www.urbancommunityoutreach.org/dic.

This opportunity is for Sunday food service. THIS IS FOR EVERY SUNDAY. The volunteer day is 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. You may join for a couple of hours or stay for the day. You can come and go during these times. Food prep starts at 8 am, and that is also when there is great need for help.

If you are interested just show up ([masked]).

PARKING: Park in the lot at Cedar & 3d in one of the designed spots for the church or on the street (free on sundays).

No open toed shoes or sandals!

      Agree w/Howie & everyone who participated. Great way to uplift the spirits (not just the ppl we get to help serve) but those (many) who lifted ours for being so kind & grateful too. Even though sounds cliche, the best way to help oneself out of a personal funk is giving back to community. Really glad to show up, otherwise wud've wasted another day feeling sorry for myself that Life don't always go the way we expect it. In reality, Life goes on all around w/plenty of ways to lend a hand.

      Met some very caring visitors/members too; sending huge holiday thanks to organizer Christina, efficient Jacky, mellow 'plum-peeler' Howie, cool-no prob Duc, patient Pearl, 2more sweet parent/child teams, devoted Toni (some are not even fr.meetup) ...& all the behind-the-scene cooking & donation items teams - wow, they did amazing!

      Anyhow, some uploaded photos might reflect a familiar scene fr.events past. But since my 1st time to this, took few snaps of building so i (& other newbies) won't get lost next time. Til next one or more, *Merry Gracious Giving All, Cheerz!* =}
