ASL Showcase at The National Poetry Slams (NPS) in Oakland Aug 7, 2014
Hello fellow ASL’ers!
My name is Mona Jean Cedar and I am an RID certified interpreter from Los Angeles. I also happen to be a poet and a dancer…which has caused me to be the resident interpreter for the National Poetry Slams which happen to be happening in Oakland, Ca this year! Aug 4th – 9th
The National Poetry Slams (NPS) is a competition for performance poets that travels to a different city each year… this year in Oakland… this year 76 teams … that’s a LOT of poetry!
NPS has long supported the DHH community by providing ASL interpreters for many of their events. Also, they produce an ASL Showcase allowing ASL performing artists to come share their art/skills with the NPS community of poets.
Hence, this invitation… Please come and bring your best ASL performance… poems, skits, dances, songs, ABC stories,,, anything with ASL is welcomed!
Thursday, Aug 7th, 10am at Vinyl
420 14th St, 2nd floor (between Broadway & Franklin)
These poets from all round the world are sincerely interested in ASL creations and wish to see your skills.
Please pass this on to your friends and family… the whole ASL community!
…and…. If…. There are any interpreters brave/crazy enough to want to interpret for NPS please contact me.
And… if there are any shows that you wish to attend and need an interpreter… please contact me.
We will interpret the Head to Head Haiku Finals (Fri 3:45p), the Group Piece Finals (Fri 11p) and Team Finals (Sat 8pm – Scottish Rite Theater).
Super excited to be signing in Oakland,
Mona Jean Cedar
