Can't wait for Motown, can wait for Bruce. Changing the start up date seems the way to go ....

    May 14, 2013

  • Rob M.

5/27 would not have have worked for me either. Both because of the holiday and also because I'll be on vacation that week. I'd like to squeeze in a Motown session now and then. It'll be a little tough for me to get there by 7:00 though.

    May 13, 2013

  • Bruce R.

May have to drop out of the Mon 5/27 meetup as it is Memorial Day weekend and have a number of barbeque invites. We might be better served starting the week after or moving to another day if more hit this issue.

Here is a couple of tunes I was thinking about since talking to Alice on Wednesday. In no way are any of these set in stone.. I think we should be all about playing to our strengths and seeing what works out best for everyone involved. Also feel free to shot me any and all suggestions for any other tunes you might have in mind. Ooh Baby Baby - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - You Really Got A Hold On Me
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

    Hall & Oates - She's Gone
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...
Easy to change it to "He's Gone" for Alice.

Marvin Gaye - Mercy, Mercy Me
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...
Not to far off from "whats going on"

More in the next message due to the 1000 character limit implemented by meetup.

    • Gregg

Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell - Ain't Nothing Like The real thing
      http://www.youtube.co...
Probably my favorite duet by these two.. I think alice and bruce could do this one justice.
Here is just the vox for this tune
      http://www.youtube.co...

The Spinners - Could It Be I'm Falling In Love
      http://www.youtube.co...
Lots of strings.. but we could always arrange them for horns and guitars if your up for it.

      The Spinners - Rubberband Man
      http://www.youtube.co...
I think this would be another fun one to arrange for guitars and horns.

Papa Was A Rolling Stone - Temptations
      http://www.youtube.co...
No fighting over who gets to play the wha wha part please :]

Jimmy Ruffin - What becomes of the broken hearted.

      Good selection of songs Gregg

      May 8, 2013

  • Alice

    "Family Affair" - Sly Stone

    May 4, 2013

  • Alice

Tell Me Something Good = Rufus and Chakka Khan, pretty funky I think, maybe give a listen on YouTube if haven't heard it in a while. There's also, " Boogie Oogie Oogie," by a Taste of Honey, but that might be more mainstream than funk.

    May 4, 2013

  • Alice

Boogie Nights is a great song ...

    May 4, 2013

  • Alice

Two more: " Tell Me Something Good" by Rufus (I think)
and " Hot Fun in the Summertime," by Sly Stone

    May 4, 2013

  • JOSEPH

Alice dont worry that is a small issue the site on my end says 6 members attending i only see 5 in the pictures lol ...

    May 4, 2013

  • Alice

This is a weird little site ... my posts are totally out of the order in which they were written and posted ... not exactly an earth shattering concern, but it makes things a little hard to follow ....

    May 3, 2013

    • Bruce R.

I went into the MORE>FILES area and updated some of the songs as being MoTown and added a number as well so we have at least a good start. I want to add some more funky type songs. Gregg was playing a couple like Boogie Nights

Shiny Star IS tough - there's a part of the vocal toward the end that I didn't realize I don't really know, either (duh - suggesting song I don't know thoroughly, sorry). But I can work on it, too, if the group wants to do it.

    May 4, 2013

    • Bruce R.

Just posted it on the board as I worked on the intro last night

      May 4, 2013

Submitted for your consideration (thank you, Rod Serling):
    The Way You Do the Things You Do (Temptations);
    the Love I Lost (Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes);
    Have You Seen Her (Chi Lites);
    Night Shift (the Commodores). (that's the one that starts out, "Marvin, he was a friend of mine...");
    Shining Star or Fantasy or After the Love is Gone (Earth Wind and Fire);
Our Day Will Come (the Daryl Hall guitar heavy version on YouTube).
    Superstition (Stevie Wonder).
All above songs are thrown out there strictly as more choices. The Motown session is gonba be a blast, so whatever is best for everyone is fine with me.

    May 3, 2013

    • Bruce R.

Shining Star is the type of funky Motown song I'd like to attempt and it's alot of fun, but it's a tough one and I'm working on putting it together now.

      May 3, 2013

  • Alice

And how about, "Under the Boardwalk," by the Drifters?

    May 3, 2013

    • Bruce R.

All the boardwalks were detroyed in the storm!

    Thanks, Joseph ;)..

no no why ??keep it going that is how you get things done right ..thank you for your input !!!

    May 3, 2013

  • Alice

PS - "You Are Everything," by the Stylistics.
OK, now i'm really, REALLY, done ...

    May 3, 2013

  • Alice

Great songs Gregg! I'm a little iffy on Rubber Band Man tho. How about Stevie Wonder's, "Superstition"? And I'd be totally willing to toss "ooh, Baby, Baby," because I now think that's too much of a singer"s song, with not enough fun parts for the other players. Have a couple of others I'm throwing in just to consider (next post). I'd be perfectly happy to stay with your list as is, my suggestions are only to add to the mix of choices for all to consider.

    May 3, 2013

  • JOSEPH

  • JOSEPH

Gregg will start a program with the new members and hope we can use some songs this year when we get out there thanks to all the new and existing members ...

    April 29, 2013

  • JOSEPH

Rob let's see how it goes i may put the session on Wednesday nights after the blues jam if it is better for all just feeling the waters sort of speak for now ..thanks

    April 29, 2013

  • JOSEPH

by the way it is MAY 29 not the 27 if anyone wonders ....

    April 29, 2013

  • Rob M.

I would love to attend this, but two sessions a week will not work out for me. I will maybe try to alternate between this and the blues jam at some point in the future.

    April 28, 2013

  • Alice

And yeah,I can sing all the parts in the song ;) .....

    April 28, 2013

  • Alice

I'm thinking Pappa Was a Rollin' Stone has huge opportunities for guitar licks. Long song, though ...

    April 28, 2013

  • Bruce R.

We just need Gregg to advise what songs we want to tackle initially. Maybe post a couple of songs on the board so we can practice a bit. Otherwise we will just give it a shot when we get there

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
