We will do the songs that we know the best obviously. Don't worry about lists, it'll only drive you nuts. Relax and just play well.

    third part.

Announce the song, the song's key, and even chords if someone is not familiar with the song.
Breaks go around clockwise. Each player, regardless of musical ability, gets a turn.
Only one instrument should be playing the break at a time.
Players may skip their turn at a break at their discretion and not the discretion of others. Signal your pass or shake your head.
Passing your turn means your turn for this break only. A new turn comes up with each rotation
Players should clearly signal the next player in the circle if they want him/her to take over.
Jams are not closed band practice sessions, no one gets excluded by weird tunes
nobody but a select few know…
Anyone participating in a disruptive way may be politely told how to follow the jam etiquette, or to leave.thank you !!!

      July 13, 2013

  • Jeff R.

Bruce we'll miss you. You've been a great help for all of us. Thanks for everything

    second part ...

Keep the volume at an acceptable level and lower your volume
When someone else takes a break , if you can’t hear the soloist playing the break
The singer the drummer etc. then lower your volume.
Pay particular attention to instruments like violins, banjos, brass etc.
You're playing in a small space and not a stadium and we don't want to go deaf.
Too many of the same instruments (guitars)? Playing all at the same time can sound bad,
so consider tag teaming over a certain amount of bars, rotate, even leave the circle after a few tunes and encourage side liners to take your place.
Backup should be in the back and not trying to overpower the soloist.

i am posting a list of the things we expect for the jams after a few chats with members i think this is what as to be done thanks to all who understand that this is for a better experience overall !!!

    Jam Sessions and Etiquette
the primary Goal is having fun and making music together
please Always keep sight of this important point
No attitudes allowed. If everyone is not enjoying themselves
then something is wrong and should be corrected.
Introduce yourself to the other participants. Network,
communicate and enjoy yourself in a friendly,
    musical environment.
Do not watch from the sidelines you learn by doing so
get in there and jam !!!
If there is a jam leader identified,
    please follow their instructions.

I whittled the song list to our strongest 42 songs. I put them in the order of which I think shows us at our best. It really doesn't make sense to play stuff that we are weak at. I'll post rhe list tomorrow and I'll bring copies on Monday. If anyone has any comments about this, list them here.

Maybe we should do The Ventures... perfect car show material!! How come nobody thought of that?

    July 12, 2013

    • Jeff R.

We're doing wipeout. That should get you going good.

    Hello, drum solo

    July 12, 2013

  • Jeff R.

Since we don't have that much time, we should check out a few of the other songs but still play if we can the songs thar sound decent. We already know that the songs thT we did fir the cd sound good.

i think because we are going to try and entertain car show folk,,listen i dont love all those songs but i understand the theme,,im car show folk,i think theres something for everyone on this list,,and anyhoo, when we get them down and start to see how there going to sound then we should make a desicion on to scrap it or not,, just my 2 cents,, i know, nobody asked! lol my point is lets see how they sound and if they suck get rid of em,

Because we are the Long Island Blues Jam I feel any Rock n' Roll tunes should be of R & B origin that mostly was produced during the 50's-70's. There Blues influenced some major hits.

    July 12, 2013

    • Jeff R.

I agree with that. There were a few members last Wed. who were shaking their heads questioning as to why we were playing stuff that wasn't blues.

      1 · July 12, 2013

That's the cool thing about cellblock. The chorus is sung by everone. No harmony is needed. Just a group sing.

    1 · July 12, 2013

  • Dave S.

Just keep in mind the our vocal limits when harmonies are crucial (outside of Sandy and Alice), when selecting songs because an unhappy audience can result in ruin.

    July 12, 2013

  • Jeff R.

Riot in cellblock#9 is a great song Eddie. I can sing that without a problem. Easy to play to. Basic progression in any key.
