5 Boro Tour Registration Begins!

  • January 14, 2014 · 12:00 PM

It is time again to register for the largest charity bike tour in NYC! The down side is the price is now $90 per person and it will sell out early, probably within 16 hrs from the time registration opens. There will also be a way to organize as a group so we can have the same start time and location so we can ride as a group. More details later on that.

Here is some info from the website. A couple of things you should consider before registering:

It's a rain or shine event.

It's a long day, 7am probably until 4PM or later.

You should feel confident riding 20+ miles prior to the ride.

The ride is organized by skill level. Most likely we will be towards the back of the group so we can ride at a "Social level". There are plenty of stops along the way.

It is possible to bail out at the 30 mile mark by crossing the Brooklyn Bridge and heading back to the start point.

It's a lot of fun.

Online registration starts on Jan 14 at 12PM. We will coordinate pickup of the tour packages when they are available in late April.

Here is the link for the 2014 TD 5 boro bike tour.

Bridget and I are in also. We'll discuss groups, meet times and locations, and package pickup at a later date. Congratulations to those who are taking the plunge for the first time. You will be rewarded!

That is good news re packets -- this is our first tour & someone who did it previously told us the pickup was difficult -- I guess there is no problem to pick up a packet for someone else...

LISB is a well oiled machine and last year we sent our special ops secret weapon to pickup the packages with complete success. Its a nice thing to go to if you have the time, as they have famous people and events going on.

I have to sit in a training all day tomorrow. Hopefully will be able to register on a break... A few questions....
20 extra miles?? so this will be a 60-70 mile day???

I haven't ridden with you guys yet... I ride 13-16mph (on flats) am I gonna be able to keep up.

Last year we clocked a total of approx 47 miles with a couple of rest stops along the way. Total milage equated approx 47 inculding the ride back to the cars. I believe what Drew meant to say is that you should be able to go on a 20 mile + ride as a pre~requisit to this ride. You will have no worries in staying with the grp. We ride for the enjoyment at a casual fun pace ...not at a snails pace nor trying to break the sound barrier. I am on a mtb and 12/14 mph is just about right for me... of course if there is a hill with no stop sign or intersection at the bottom then its anchors away for me until gravity slows me down.
