Another 50-mile surf-and-turf ride being held by the 5BBC on July 19. :-)

Should be just as much fun as the Long Beach one!

Sounds super hilly. But if I am free that weekend I may definitely do.

Hijinks from the 5BBC Long Beach ride. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.695957793785211.1073741966.117441191636877&type=1

It was a blast! And I would encourage Drew and Bridget to get in touch with Virginia for some very pertinent ideas from this ride for that LISB Long Beach ride being planned.

    • Virginia

Yes it was Tom. Lots of laughs and a fun group. Agreed the LB ride thru Hewlett Harbor and over the Atlantic bridge is so scenic and beautiful. This is now my new route to LB from home.

Weather forecast looks gorgeous for this coming Sunday's 5BBC ride to Long Beach! I will be sooo looking forward to the ride after being kept indoors by rain on Friday and Saturday. :D

Just want to pass the word that there will be a similar surf and turf 50-mile ride on Mother's Day (May 11)-- 5 Boro Bike Club's ride from Cunningham Park through picturesque Hewlett to Long Beach. Moderate pace, with people at corners pointing out turns for you so you won't get lost. There will be less hills on this ride though :-). http://www.5bbc.org/rides-events/day-rides/traffic-haters-ride-long-beach

Great Ride, guys!! Awesome group. 52 miles against the wind, both ways, yet still able to walk the next day! Great route, Paul! Tom - your the best! Thanks for your skills! Francisco.. you woo me with your Monte crisssssto and your noisy leaf! Virginia & Lisa - We can hang w/ the big boys now! =D

    3 · April 29, 2014

    • Lisa R

I was surprisingly able to walk the next day. A slight strain in my thigh. But felt great must have been the seat adjustment. :)

      2 · April 30, 2014

    • Tom

Lisa R: Do more adjustments in 1/8-inch increments until you find the "sweet spot," where your leg extension on the downstroke feels "just right" and no longer causes the strain in your thigh. :-) Remember that a bike shop fitting only gets you into the "ballpark"-- You need to fine-tune the positioning yourself to get the most out of your bike!

Wait list question - I see this ride ran without being full yet there was a wait list, that I was on. Do you have to keep checking if you are on the wait list? Once before I was automatically put on a ride from the wait list. Disappointed that didn't happen this time as I was available to ride.

    April 28, 2014

    • Tom

Frank and Lisa were in the same situation.. I think they emailed Paul and asked to be put on the list when they saw the vacancies from those who bailed a coupla days before the ride. Definitely email him when you see the vacancies. :-)

Great ride thank you Paul. Great entertainment thank you Heather, and of course thanks to my mechanic. Virginia you always paying attention to where we all are, those are signs of a great sweeper. Good company Lisa the "Nassau girl".

    4 · April 28, 2014

  • Virginia

52 miles....yay! Thank you Paul for all your effort on this well planned out ride. Thank you Frank for assisting with the sweep. What a fun day!

    3 · April 28, 2014

  • Paul

Thanks everyone for coming to ride. 51.7 miles ~ Wow a fantastic accomplishment for us breaking the 50 mile mark, stiff winds and all. Thanks Virginia for being an excellent sweep :) Hope everyone enjoyed the day and accomplishment as much as I (including a little braggin rights when you get into the office Monday).

    4 · April 27, 2014

Final odometry according to several of our cyclocomputers: 51.7 miles! (Plus or minus a couple 10ths of a mile). Half a century, baby! Well done everyone!

Great ride guys. Thanks Paul. And thanks everyone for sweeping me when I fell back. :)

Weather looks good tomorrow. Sunny, going from 50F at 9:30 up to 57F in the afternoon. Wind calms down from 14mph in the morning down to 8mph in the afternoon. Should be be a nice ride!

    1 · April 26, 2014

Woohoo!! Going to be a great day for a ride.

Yes! Definitely.. I am always riding on the barrier island so.. If you want to ride from Atlantic Beach to Point Lookout we can do that..

      April 26, 2014

sorry guys had to change my rsvp :( :(

If you live on the South Shore.. Does anyone want to car pool? I have room for another bike. I will be coming from the Long Beach, NY area. It will take me 1 hr and 40 min to drive to the Smith Point Beach, Shirley, NY. Let me know by tomorrow afternoon. Thank you.

    April 26, 2014

    • Virginia

Hi Lisa - i live in Lynbrook and would like to car pool with u. Il'll email u to arrange.

      April 26, 2014

  • Paul

We moved the time back to 9:30. Agreed that the C3 ride is a cool weather ride, in addition an early Sunday morning ride to mitigate traffic issues. October?

    April 22, 2014

    • Tom

At this rate warm weather rides won't happen until July! :-P Sunday's high will be 57F in Shirley, layers recommended. Let's all stay warm and not let this darn Polar Vortex keep us indoors :-)

      1 · April 24, 2014

    • Virginia

It actually was beautiful riding the south shore last week until later in the day when the temp started to drop. Layers!!

      April 25, 2014

  • Hanz F.

Sorry guys, I will not be able to make this ride. See you all on the next one.

    April 22, 2014

  • Tom

Hi Paul, would you consider moving the start time a bit later? Those of us coming from western LI / Queens will take a lot longer to get out to Shirley than to Cold Spring Harbor.

Personally, I think I'd rather try to tackle the hills of the North Shore now when it's still a bit cool, rather than during the hotter days of summer. Same reason why they run the Boston Marathon today and the NYC Marathon in November. Just a thought.. :-D

    1 · April 21, 2014

  • Virginia

OMG looking at the map this is going to be a roller coaster with steep steep inclines. YIKES!

    1 · April 21, 2014

    • Paul

I am actually thinking on changing the route to something not as challenging. My Shirley ride is 90% complete on paper and may be a better pick for a pre~5boro ride

      1 · April 21, 2014

    • Heather

I'm down for the Shirley ride! I haven't seen the map yet, but I'm already terrified!

      April 21, 2014

  • Karen E

The option was on my iPhone app. On the wait list. Any chance there will be rides this summer that won't fill up while I am sleeping :)

    April 15, 2014

    • Heather

      Funny stuff.. :D

      April 16, 2014

    • Greg R.

Virginia I love Long let me know when that ride is hopefully I can make it

      April 17, 2014

  • Karen E

There is no option to RSVP to wait list on my iPad app.

    April 15, 2014

    • Karen E

Thank you for all the explanations Paul, I know you guys do a great job putting these rides together (which is why I hate to miss them!). I have been training for the five boro, no centuries on my radar yet, but I plan to do 100 miles over 3 days in Niagara ON later this summer. Unfortunately I don't get to check out the discussion boards, but will start making it a priority. Now if only you could explain my iPad meetup app to me, life would be golden :)

      April 15, 2014

    • Paul

Niagra sounds like an interesting trip...I was looking at a rail to trail near albany along the Mohawk river..I am moving my ideas slowly over to the draft section but there is much I put on the discussion boards that is dormant for now. As far as helping explain your ipad meet up app I would most likely give you my last dollar as I am a droid user and use the full site option whenever possible...life is stilll golden though

      1 · April 15, 2014

  • Karen E

Will there be a wait list for this ride?

    April 15, 2014

    • Virginia

Yes there is. RSVP for wait list.
