Nassau County, the Village of Freeport and the New York State Department of State have commissioned a community-based waterfront planning initiative called the South Shore Blueway Trail Plan. The project encompasses Nassau County’s South Shore waterfront comprising the Hempstead Bays to South Oyster Bay.
The plan will serve as the foundation for a network of kayak and canoe launch sites along the South Shore by helping to integrate recreational activities and providing greater access to the water.
Going Coastal and Cameron Engineering & Associates have been selected to lead a team of urban design and technical experts to plan the blueway trail.
This letter invites you to participate in the first community meeting with local stakeholders to discuss:
Locations for launch sites
Routes to key waterfront places
A continuous, safe water trail linking parks and places
The meeting will take place Thursday, April 4 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Freeport Recreation Center. Please register to attend HERE.
A project website has been launched to hear from users of the South Shore waterfront and to inform people of the project’s findings: www.southshoreblueway.com.
You can also join the conversation on http://www.facebook.com/southshoreblueway.
We hope you can make it.
