RE: [LIRawVegans] Port Ambrose

I do not work for the government.

I am a teacher volunteering and networking with many environmental organizations to protect the place I live and all the things that live here with me, from lower life forms such as plankton to higher life forms such as mammals. This includes my family and friends as well as whales, clams, native plants, and all things living on the earth. Human ignorance and arrogance has had devastating effects. It is a folly to believe, as many do, that we can play God and not suffer the consequences.

Jane

I sent your email to people at Sane Energy who are very knowledgeable about the subject that you are in disagreement with me about. They have done extensive research on this project what I was told is that The conflict is that if the LNG port is approved, no company would be interested in making a financial commitment to build turbines as the demand for its energy would be greatly reduced. Therefore the turbine project would be dead in a sense..

Technically you are right in that a permit could be issued to both but its a mute point because this project would kill the Turbine project . No investors no project.

I know we are  both  being  honest based on our knowledge but I have to take in to consideration the source of where the information is coming from that is why I asked you who you work for.

Do you work for (MARAD), or the US Coast Guard (USCG)?

When I was at the meeting at JFK in Jan. I asked the people working for MARAD where they stand on this issue of Port Ambrose. There reply was that their neutral. Anyone with any knowledge of their actions in way they have carried out this process knows they are for it.  Of course this is what they are told to say to keep their job. Its not personal. I am sure many people that work for them are against the project but people have to keep their jobs and I can respect that

To me there is one rule I learned to follow. That is once someone or this case a Gov't agency lies to me once, I know they are going to lie to me again.  I don't trust. My husband and I are big on honesty.

Point is if you work for one of these agencies I know the truth may be  twisted or hidden a bit to fit their agenda that is just my opinion. I know you meant well in correcting me and glad you brought it out because it clarifies the issue so Thank you for that.

All the Best

 Shelly

I asked to avoid making you look bad for disseminating misinformation.

Since you clearly would prefer that I not contact you directly allowing you to make any corrections without it reflecting badly on you, here goes….

The organization I am working with had been looking at this LNG project and networked with many organizations that are working on it. We submitted comments in response to the federal call for comments and spoken at two of the hearings held here on Long Island. One thing is infinitely clear. Any claims by any persons working to protect the environment that can be shown to be untrue, puts all the claims from all environmental organizations in question.

The one clearly untrue statement in what you stated is that the placing of an LNG port where it is planned will displace wind turbines. It will not. BOEM has already stated it can issue permits for both, and one will not exclude the other.  Since BOEM issues the permits, they are the “go to”  source for information on this, not the leaders of the Sane Energy Project.

Jane
This is not a discreet topic. If you disagree with something I said please send it out to all or don't make the comment. I would rather have everyone weigh in. I got my information from the leaders of Sane Energy if you think I am wrong in something I said or have a suggestion as to anythng I mentioned in the email I am open to listening and correcting it or debating if need be, so should everyone else.
If you want to talk to me personally because you want to get involved than I will mail you directly
Thanks Shelly

Shelly, I would greatly appreciate making a comment about your email with you directly rather than on the list. Can you please send your email address to me at [address removed]? it concerns one of your claims below.

Thanks

Jane

Phil

I have been work with a group in Long Beach called Sane Energy who is taking actions to fight it. We have a major protest planned on April 21 starting at 5pm at the Cuomo's office in the city. The only thing that will stop it is Cuomo vetoing it. We have to come out in major force and let our voices be heard any way we can. We have gotten many politicans invovled such as Skelos, Rice  and local politicans. We have written letters to the politicans to speak up to Cuomo. The key is raising awareness which I have tried to do within the raw vegan group among other avenues. If anyone wants to help me raise awareness by doing door to door petitions or giving petitions to local businesses or helping in what ever way you can let me know I will be glad to work with you. Please let others know. Most people don't know about this project. If it goes through it will be extremely destructive to the ocean life. It will make our beach water much more acidic and undesirable to swim in. It will greatly increase our chances of flooding every time there is a storm . It will devalue our property. Worst of all it will be a threat to our safety (terroist attack). clean drinking water, and clean air. It will also lead to eventual fracking in this area.

It will not lead to any job creation. It will stop the wind turbine clean energy that was proposed for the south shore from ever being built which would create many many jobs and be a huge step in promoting clean energy

We stopped Cuomo's attack on teachers and schools for now. We can stop this if we let our voice be heard. Thanks for raising awareness Phil.

Shelly

Hi to any concerned about the Port Ambrose project.  I received a mailing from my assemblyman Brian Curran, very detailed, explaining all about the proposed project.  It looks really bad on paper.

There will be a meeting at the Oceanside Library that he will be at, for all those concerned about this project, on Monday, April 20 at 7PM.  That is at 30 Davison Ave in Oceanside.

I will be in Puerto Rico, so I will not be there.  I hope that we can succeed in stopping this.

I remember many years ago when there was a proposal to build Windpower turbines far off the coast of Jones Beach and how easy it was to stop that project.  There is a lot of momentum for maintaining the status quo.

Thanks,

Phil
