Jazz featuring Meshell Ndegeocello

One of my favorite artists is coming to DC in April, Meshelle Ndegeocello. She'll be performing at the Kennedy Center's new performance space named the "Supersized Jazz Club" and featured in a series that celebrates Fats Waller. I am proposing that we meet for dinner and then head over to the concert, which starts at 9:30.

The write up and links are below. Tickets have not gone on sale yet, but I will post an update when they do.

The Kennedy Center is proud to present a new performance space, housed in the Center's Atrium. The Supersized Jazz Club features a dance floor, sofas, chairs, and open seating.

Dixeland, swing, ragtime, stride…whatever you want to call it, this early 20th century jazz groove was the soundtrack of the original dance party! Fats Waller, one of the central proliferators of stride piano, is honored in Jason Moran's free Performing Arts for Everyone presentation of Fats Waller Dance Party with vocalist Meshell Ndegeocello. This modern take on the music of Fats Waller (his familiar jazz tunes include "This Joint Is Jumpin'" and "Ain't Misbehavin'") looks back at this jazz tradition for which Waller was such a seminal figure. The New York Times calls it "joyous and foolish and graceful: somehow both exceptional and no big deal."

This was my first meetup...sorta. I didn't actually see anyone from the group. Still, without being in the group I wouldn't have known about the event. The dance lesson was very, very good. I think I enjoyed that more than the actual show. By the time the show started, I was tired from the lesson portion.

**FYI --I called the KC marketing office: one wristband per person--they told me you can't pick up extra for your friend, date, etc. They have to be there WITH YOU to get it***
