Come join L.L. Bean Mansfield on Friday May 17th for our sunset hike up Great Blue Hill in the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, MA. We’ll plan on meeting in the large public parking lot located at 1904 Canton Ave (RT 138), Milton, MA just past the Blue Hills Ski Area and adjacent to the Blue Hills Trailside Museum. On this evening outing we’ll be hiking the red dot trail to the summit of Great Blue Hill. We’ll want to be on the summit just before the sun sets at 8:00PM so please arrive before 7:15PM so we can get started on time. Once on the summit we’ll rest at a wonderful overlook that faces west and enjoy the spectacular sunset. Please consider bringing snacks and your favorite non-alcohol beverage to enjoy. After the sun slips below the horizon we’ll head over to Eliot Tower to view the Boston skyline as it comes alive with the lights of the city at night. A waxing gibbous half moon will be high in the sky this evening while we’re on the summit. Please bring binoculars if you have them to expand your viewing possibilities and a flashlight or headlamp for use after the sun sets. After completing the Eliot Circle we’ll descend back to our vehicles. This hike should run the full 2 hours or more depending how long we linger on the summit and cover about between 2 and 3 miles in distance.
