Please join L.L. Bean Mansfield for our winter hike/snowshoe in the Blue Hills Reservation. This will be a loop hike along the spectacular Skyline Trail. This popular hike will be on Sunday 2/10 at 10AM. We’ll be meeting in the large parking area at Houghton’s Pond adjacent to the Park HQ and the State Police building at 695 Hillside Street, Milton, MA. The Skyline Trail is a strenuous and rugged trail that transects the Blue Hills Reservation from east to west. The summits of the numerous hills offer incredible views of downtown Boston and the Harbor Islands to the east, Mt. Wachusett and Mt. Monadnock to the west and north respectively and south towards Providence, RI and Fall River, MA. This hike may be a surprise: Depending on the weather and trail conditions we may hike in the western section of the Reservation and climb the highest point in the Blue Hills: Great Blue Hill. Otherwise we’ll do a section to the east of Houghton’s Pond. Whichever hike we do we’ll take our time and plan on numerous rest stops along the way. If you’ve never hiked in the Blue Hills this is a great introduction. Please consider joining L.L. Bean Mansfield on this challenging excursion. This hike should run the full 3 hours and cover about 4 miles. If we need to make changes to the hike mandated by poor road or weather conditions those changes (or cancellation/rescheduling) will be posted to this site.
The minimum age for attending is 8 (Children 8-15 yrs must have a participating adult with them, 16-17 yrs must have a parent/guardian sign participant agreement but do not need to attend).
Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions. We’ll do this hike weather permitting.
Dressing in layers works best.
Wear appropriate footwear for hiking.
Please bring water, snacks and any personal medicines and gear you may need as well. These outings are free but you are responsible to have everything you need.
A camera and/or binoculars are always a welcome addition.
Leashed, people friendly, well socialized outdoor dogs are welcome at this venue.
Please arrive 15 minutes before hand because we want to get started on time.
If you have any trouble finding our meetup location please feel free to call before the event kicks off. Andy’s cell phone is [masked].
Look for Andy’s Green Honda Pilot with the “L.L. Bean Mansfield Outing Program” banner hanging on the side!
Thanks to those who made it on the snowshoe. What a spactular day for a hike. My apologies to anyone who couldn't get a hold of me via my "misplaced" cell phone. Also apologies for the the camera malfunction. I'll post the few cell phone photos that people took as soon as they get them to me. Hope to see you all on the first Sunset Series hike on 2/23 at High Rock in F. Gilbert Hills SF. I'll let everyone know if High Rock Road is open for winter travel. --Andy

Terry and I had a great snowshoe around the pond. We're sure we were at the parking lot in the directions but couldn't find anyone. See you next time.
