Green-Yellow Trail winter hike/snowshoe at High Rock in F.Gilbert Hills S.F.

Come Hike the Green-Yellow Trail in F. Gilbert Hills SF with L.L. Bean Mansfield!
Please join L.L. Bean Mansfield at 10AM on Saturday March 9th for a winter hike along the Green-Yellow Trail in the southern section of F. Gilbert Hills State Forest. This outing was rescheduled from January 6th due to poor winter road conditions on High Rock Road. The Green-Yellow trail typically doesn’t see much foot traffic as it winds its’ way through some very nice terrain. We’ll start our hike in the circular parking area at the end of High Rock Road in F. Gilbert Hills State Forest (see directions below). The hike will also intersect and follow sections of the Warner and Acorn trails. Please plan on bringing snowshoes to use if there is sufficient snow cover (8 inches or more). This hike should run the full 3 hours and cover over 4 miles in distance. High Rock Road is not maintained for winter use so if we need to make changes to the hike mandated by poor road or weather conditions those changes will be posted to this site.

Thank you to everyone who joined L.L. Bean Mansfield to snowshoe in almost 2 feet of new snow in F. Gilbert Hills State Forest. It was great to have some new members join our regulars on this wonderful morning. I’ve uploaded all of the photos Matt and I took. If anyone else took some please upload them for all to enjoy. Unfortunately my GPS recorded an incomplete track so I haven’t posted one for this trip. I hope to see you all on the Sunset Series hike to Sundown Ledge on 3/24 at 5PM. --Andy

    Hello all,
As of 4PM this afternoon High Rock Road is completely snow covered and is impassible. I swung by F. Gilbert Hills headquarters and the parking lot there was still not plowed at all: I didn’t want to try entering even with 4 wheel drive. There is over a foot of fresh heavy wet snow on the trails and snowshoes are necessary. We will be meeting at the parking lot at 45 Mill Street, Foxboro, MA. Here’s hoping the state plows the lot before our hike kicks off tomorrow so we can enjoy a late winter snowshoe. --Andy

Well, we all got our wish for enough snow to snowshoe, but haven't yet heard back from our LL Bean leader on where we are waiting - per his email about 3 days ago. Hoping it won't be canceled.

I am planning on checking out the condition of High Rock Road later this week. If it is still unfit for travel I will post a new parking location for this hike: most likely the dirt lot at the park HQ at 45 Mill St., Foxboro, MA 02035. Please check back later this week for my update on road, parking and trail conditions. Extended forecast for Saturday is for mix of sun and clouds with a temp in the lower 40’s. Hope to see you all on Saturday 3/9 at 10AM. --Andy
