Hike at South Mountain Preserve

We will be hiking the trails at South Mountain Preserve or snowshoeing if we still have snow! It's a great place to shake off the cobwebs of winter and hit the trail! It is a bit of an agressive hike, but worth the effort!

A nice hike with a great group of people on what turned out to be a beautiful day. Thanks Steve for showing us this trail. Sharing a link to my GPS track for this hike which came to 6.4 miles including the unblazed Rodale loop that eight of us took. (Your mileage may vary. :-)

Steve, In the parking lot right after the first tracks where you have the map pin placed? Or the second set of tracks a few hundred feet later?

    Well, this sounds juicy...but a 9am bugle call w/ a 40min drive is a killer for a Sat. I know...I know.... I'm a weekend early-bird weenie. Chris and I will meet for fly-tying, coffee and scones. :O

The terrain is varied, some rocks to hike over but mostly nice trail. 5 miles, some good hills, definetly worth the 2 hours or so for this hike! And some of the best views and oldest rocks in North America right close to home.

Erika, the hike at South Mountain Preserve has a pretty good elevation change over a short stretch. I also tend to set a brisk pace, but I only hike as fast as our slowest participant, making sure we stay together. You will encounter some rocky areas but the trail is pretty good so no worries! Go for it!

I've never been to this preserve so it's hard for me to imagine what you mean by aggressive hike. Hilly, rocky, break neck speed or all of the above??? Please clariy Thanks! Also do they rent the snowshoes???
