Wednesday Evening Paddle

Every Wednesday from May to October we will paddle at lake Nockamixon. We usually paddle until sunset so as the summer goes on we have more time to cover ground or just float along. You will need a PFD, Paddle and whatever watercraft you would like to bring, be it a canoe or kayak or rowboat (no motors).  We usually have a pretty good group of folks, and it's a great way to make lasting friends.

Last year we had a core group of 25 or so paddlers, and we would like that to grow this year. All skill levels are welcome. It is a helpful group and we generally paddle about 5 miles. With lots to see at the lake, bald eagles, osprey, hawks and owls, deer, coyotees, swans and geese there is always something to marvel and photograph. The sunsets on Nockamixon can be spectacular so we hope you join in the fun.

See you on the water!

My son can't make it tonight, but I'll bring his kayak and gear if anyone wants to borrow it. It's a 14 foot recreational boat so it's pretty easy for beginners.

I have a 11 year old who tried kayaking last year. Can I have her use your son's kayak or is that going to be too big for her. If it works out for her, I intend to buy one this year. If it does not, she will be staying home for the season.

Car trouble or no car trouble I am going to try and make it. The kayak is loaded...the weather is going to be nice.....and I am taking off Thursday to get the car fixed so I can stay out a little later than usual. Hopefully we can stop at the local watering hole afterwards for some post paddle festivities.

my launch permit expired so I ordered a new one inline. My printer refused to print the temp. sticker after I paid for it. Do I have to wait for the sticker to come in the mail to join?

I won't be able to attend or the next 6 weeks due to a travelling work assignment. Good and bad all at the same time! I'd rather be kayaking!!!!

I just realized that my launch permit expired at the end of 2012. I was going to order a new one online at https://www1.pa.wildlifelicense.com/start.php but then I saw the list of local locations where you can buy a launch permit: http://fishandboat.com/brag/aa_usepermits.htm . A hardware store 2 miles from my house is one of the dealers, so I just purchased a launch permit there.

Jack - thanks for the inside scoop on the launch permit!

If you are able to stop by the store and fill out the release form you can definetly do that. I am working on getting approval to E-mail the form out to participants, hopefully I will get an answer today! Will keep you posted!

    1 · April 15, 2013

    • Steve J.

Sorry, must have hit enter. I got it, never too early! If anyone else can come by the store before the 1st great! If you have been on one of our hikes this year, you are good to go!

      1 · April 17, 2013

    • Larry

I'll be down for the bike clinic so I'll do the waiver then

i don't have a paddle. would love to attend but you know the saying: Up the creek W/O a P-----. LOL

    April 13, 2013

  • Steve J.

Jack, I will be there as soon as I can get there on the 1st. We will need to have releases signed, which may take a little time. Once that is done we will be on the water. It is just my schedule on the 1st, and as time goes by, most of the people will have their paperwork done and we will be able to hit the water right away.

If I could be there sooner I would be!

    April 11, 2013

    • Inigo

Something tells me Steve'll pull it off without a hitch. :D

      April 11, 2013

    • Jack E

Steve - Thank you for clarifying that the late start will only be for the first night. There is a "Files" section on this Meetup page under the "More" menu where you could upload a PDF of the waiver form. Then the paddlers could download and print the form and fill it out in advance.

      1 · April 12, 2013

  • Kris K.

I'll be there at my usual time. Around 6 due to work. Can't wait to see everyone again!

    April 11, 2013

  • Dorothy

Maybe have 6:00, 6:15, and 6:30 launch groups to manage such a large number? Then everyone meets up at point x for the return trip together? Regardless, I'm hoping to arrive early if I can to beat traffic and take my time unloading. Can't wait, it will be the maiden voyage for my Pungo 140, hope I like it. It was a trade off from the Tsunami so I can still paddle with my dog.

    2 · April 11, 2013

  • Larry

Steve.....If we happen to wander into the store prior to the 1st would it be possible to fill out and sign the form in advance?

Does LL Bean have a link to a standard liability waiver that we can print, fill out, and just sign in your presence the evening of the paddle?

It's a pretty good bet you'll hit the 50 person limit on this one and handling all the paperwork that evening is going to be a challenge.

    April 11, 2013

  • Jack E

Steve - Is this going to be the situation every week - that we do not launch until 6:30? I thought that the 6:00 pm start time posted on the Meetup calendar was the launch time. It will be disappointing to lose a half-hour of paddling.

    April 11, 2013

  • Steve J.

I am on the scedule here until 5:00 so I will be there about 5:45. If this is your first time attending an outing this year we will have paperwork to fill out. I would guess we should be launching by 6:30 at the latest! See you all there! Steve

Can't wait! ...are we meeting at 6pm, or launching at 6PM? I.e. is it best to arrive at 5:30ish?

    April 8, 2013

  • Steve J.

I guess we are going to kick off the season with a big group! I just changed the group size to 50 and will have to put on more help on the first! If you signed up, make sure you come! I will see you there!
