Spring Hike at Grassy Lake

We are looking forward to a spring hike, and what sounds better than a place called Grassy Lake?!?!  Located in Lake County, Grassy Lake Forest Preserve abuts to the Fox River, and includes beautiful spaces like Wagner Fen and Flint Creek.  We look forward to exploring the area!

**Park at the Lake Barrington Village Hall, located on Old Barrington Road off of Kelsey Road and southwest of Miller Road.**

From the website: Three rare and valuable natural features of the preserve include Wagner Fen, Flint Creek and wooded bluffs. Oak woodlands surround the fen and creek, providing habitat for songbirds, woodpeckers and hawks.

Grassy Lake

The landscape of this preserve features gently rolling hills, oak woodlands, marshes and moraines.

Winding through colorful sedge meadows and mature oak woodlands, 3.5 miles of trails offer scenic views of Grassy Lake and the Fox River valley. Trails here are open only for hiking and cross-country skiing. Bicycling is not allowed.

Fun. My dog Ginger enjoyed herself too on her way to losing her 1 pound!

Another gem of an area to hike and great company! Thank you LL Bean for leading these adventures at various forest preserves. Till next time...

Can a beginner do this hike? An out of shape sort of obese beginner?

Absolutely! We do our best to keep things at a casual speed, and make sure everyone is comfortable :)

Sorry to say I won't be partaking for several months...I blew out my left knee skiing 2 weeks ago. ACL graft and meniscus repair surgery scheduled for April 14th. May not see y'all until fall. We shall see if walking or biking will happen late summer? :-(
