Earth Day Cleanup!

If you are looking for something fun to do this Sunday at 10am, please join us at the Jelke Creek Bird Sanctuary for a community service adventure!  Just down the road from our previous community service, the bird sanctuary is designed to hold rainwater- which we have clearly had a lot of this week!  Some of the water features were designed as part of the water quality improvement grant. These water features capture the rain water and hold it until it can slowly infiltrate through the gravel beds and native plant roots into the ground. This type of absorption cleans the water as it percolates through.  For the first time in a few years, this sanctuary may be at the capacity it was deisgned for.  Green heron, Great Blue heron, Gadwall, Pied Billed Grebe and may other water birds can be found in the ponds, while eastern bluebirds, cardinals, meadowlarks, bobolinks, and tree sparrows are common perching birds to the area!  Join us as we bird and clean throughout the many trails!
