"Free" Brooklyn Heights Walking Tour (Reservation Required)

No need to RSVP "No"

Let's take a tour of Brooklyn Heights!!

You will need to make a reservation first, and then you will be moved from "waiting" to "attending".  Space is limited in these tours, so act fast!! Click the link at the bottom of the description below to go to the reservation page.

Known as America's first suburb, Brooklyn Heights is truly a gem. Travel and Leisure named it one of America's top 10 most beautiful neighborhoods, and its beauty is rivaled only by its place in American history. These quaint, tree-lined streets have been the sites of Revolutionary War battles, abolitionist activism and have inspired numerous novelists. Visit a stop on the Underground Railroad, or the home of Truman Capote, where he penned Breakfast at Tiffany's and where Jackie Robinson signed with the Dodgers.

Join Free Tours by Foot on this name-your-own-price* tour as we take it to Brooklyn and command the heights of one of New York City's most historic, beautiful and architecturally diverse neighborhoods, with beautiful homes in various architectural styles, from Federal to Greek, Gothic and Renaissance Revivals, in forms ranging from carriage homes to mansions. Brooklyn Heights is hard to beat! Come also for the stories of engineering feats, military defeats, anti-slavery preachers, prodigious authors, legendary athletes and fictional TV families. If anything, come for the unbeatable views of Manhattan and take a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Sites we will see on the tour:

  • Brooklyn Heights Promenade
  • Brooklyn Bridge
  • General Washington’s Headquarters
  • Brooklyn Borough Hall
  • Church of the Pilgrim
  • Hotel St. George
  • Grimaldi’s Pizza
  • St. Ann’s and the Holy Trinity Church
  • Fulton Ferry District
  • Walt Whitman’s Brooklyn Eagle
  • Brooklyn Historical Society
  • Homes of Truman Capote and other literary figures
  • Movie and TV locations
  • and much more!

Link to make a reservation.

Make sure you choose the 10 a.m. Brooklyn Heights tour for May 18th!

* These tours are "free", but it is suggested that you give the tour guide a tip at the end of the tour.  My suggestion would be nothing less than $10.  More if you feel the tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly.  Remember, most tours in the NYC area start at $20 and go up from there!

After the tour, we will walk over the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan, where will we get lunch at Seahorse Restaurant (a "sister" restaurant to Cowgirls) located at 259 Front St, New York, NY.  My suggestion is to try the Rattlesnake Bites, but everything on their menu is great!!  The lunch will be done on a "pay for yourself" basis, but note that there will be a 20% gratuity automatically added to the bill, so be sure you figure that into your tax and tip.

Please note: This tour is "rain or shine".  Let's keep our fingers crossed for "shine".

Don't forget your cameras!!

Darn it! I posted my comment from George and my joint account. Ok, now that I'm awake, I'm moving it to my account ... Thanks everyone for coming out! Now we know where the NORTH side of Borough Hall is! We also earned a lot about one of my favorite parts of Brooklyn! It was an experience to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge in the rain! And the lunch at Seahorse was YUMMY as usual! But the best part was the group of people I got to hang out with! Thanks guys!

Yay thanks, Lisa :)! So excited for this! Brooklyn has so much history from pre-colonial to the Dutch settlement to the revolutionary war to abolition to suburbanization and the art movements. Lol I'll probably end up booking all their walking tours this summer! Okay, that's enough caffeine for me this morning ;P. See you guys on Saturday :)

Is there anyone who made the reservation for this tour but no longer able to attend who can give me their spot? It turns out my reservation didn't go through, so I didn't receive the email to re-confirm. I'd still like to go if anyone happens to have an available spot. Thanks!

I received an email that happened to hit my SPAM folder. It was from this tour company asking that everyone please reconfirm their booking for this tour. If you do not reconfirm, your spot may end up being given away to someone on THEIR waiting list.

Make sure you find that email and reconfirm that you are going. And since we're talking about reconfirming, if you know of a change of plans that will prevent you from joining us, please make sure you remember to change your RSVP on the Meetup event as well!

Sorry sweetie. I think what happened was that I moved you, then you changed your RSVP to not going. Then changed back to going, and I forgot to move you back up again. My bad!

Hi Ida! Did you make your reservation? If so, I will move you up to "attending"! :-) The tour is "free", but still requires a reservation.

Sorry for the "attending"/"waiting" confusion Ida! I accidentally moved you up instead of Liz. Let me know when you get your reservation made, and I'll move you back to "attending"! :0)
