Dancing to Live Latin Music on the Highline!

Please RSVP Responsibly.  No need to RSVP "No". ¡Arriba! Community Dance Parties at the High Line

Arriba

Grab your friends and bring your dancing shoes – evenings of live Latin music and dancing are returning to the High Line this summer!

We can enjoy dinner and dessert before dancing under the stars. On the High Line between West 15th and West 16th Streets we will find tacos, gelato, ice pops, and more seasonal treats from food vendors.  We will meet at 6 p.m. to go grab something to eat and then head over to the Chelsea Market Passage once we are done eating to work off the calories! Please indicate in your RSVP if you will be joining us for a quick bite, or if you will just meet us later for dancing.

Friends of the High Line is pleased to partner with HAI and Hudson Guild to host some of New York City’s best Latin bands at the High Line, transforming the park into an open-air dance floor at sunset.

Part of High Line Live! – a performance series at the High Line – ¡Arriba! nights in June, July, and August feature different live acts bringing their own energy, musical style, and flavor to our community dance parties.

Wednesday, July 24

Liliana Araújo and her lively band Forró da Madame heat up ¡Arriba! with Brazilian forró, a popular dance and musical style marked by accordion, triangle, and zabumba bass drum beats.

I had such a blast last night! First time visiting Chelsea Market. Who knew that it was that nice?! Then of course, the High Line is a great place to hang out. And the Brazilian music and dancing was so much fun! The way she ended the night with that giant arch of people was so cool!! But the best part of course was the fun, laughs and hugs from the wonderful people who were there last night!! Thanks guys and gals for coming!!

Yes, the improve will be the best way to go. The dance style tonight is not Salsa, so there will be no On 1, or On 2 beat to follow. The dance that is being featured is the Brazilian Forro which is totally new to me.

    • Lisa S

Yen, the event is tomorrow night. Don't go tonight!! :-)

The music/dancing starts around 7 p.m. for those who are not joining us for dinner. Stan pointed out that there may not be a lesson. But we can do our own improv! :-)

    July 22, 2013

    • Laurie

Yes I'm not so great at the Latin dancing so I'll definitely be doing my own improv, lol. :)
