Valentine's Goodies for Soldiers & Marines in Afghanistan

Grandview-Hickman Mills Elks Lodge (map)

Selected By: Christy

******NOTE DATE CHANGE TO WEDNESDAY******
Several people mentioned interest in sending Valentine's Day care packages to deployed Soldiers and Marines. So let's do it! Let's send them some Valentines and reminders that they are in our thoughts and prayers.

Wed Jan 20th, Elks Lodge in Grandview.
This is the only night available at the Elks Lodge this week (an Elks member-only event is on Thursday so we had to change to Wednesday). I need to get these in the mail by Friday 22nd. We'll meet at 6:30 and you're welcome to come later if needed. It will probably take 3 hours to make the cards and pack the boxes. Grab a soda, coffee, beer or mixed drink at the lodge bar, and nibble on crackers and cheese or any snacks you'd like to bring.

Valentine's Goodies
We'll make large hand-decorated Valentine Cards and send in boxes with treats and jokes. Get those creative juices flowing for a good cause - lifting the spirits of our military men and women doing challenging jobs in difficult conditions. If you don't feel creative, you can help with packing and sign the cards. smile

This won't be as large of a project as the goodie bags sent at the last Care Package Party since we will be sending the treats in bulk and not making individual bags.

Bring any of the following:

  • Valentine's candy
  • Any healthy Valentine's treats (if there are such things!)
  • Crafty supplies for decorating cards if you have any
  • Recent Sports Illustrated, Maxim, Men's Health, or Women's Health magazines
  • Printouts of jokes
  • "We Love Our Troops" drawings by kids

I'll be doing this mailing even is schedule doesn't work out for others, but it would be more fun with company! Plus, I'm not the most crafty person in the world so would love help with making the Valentine's cards!

The Lodge will have burgers, tenderloin sandwiches and other bar food, or we can order pizza.

The hand-crafted Valentines turned out FABULOUS! It was great seeing you all, including new member Joan and friend Linda! Glad the vacuum packing worked so well for the socks, Jennifer. Those will be much appreciated by the Soldiers and the locals who receive them!!!

Thank you ALL for all the help with the socks!!! I would have never been able to take care of all of that by myself. Thank you SO much Christy!!!!! You are the best hostess for care packages! You made sure there is enough of everything for everyone. Most important you make sure all of us have a great time. Looking forward to the next time!
