Lee Valley walk - Cheshunt to Hackney via Tottenham Hale

Let's make the best out of the weekend and take a walk along the river Lea.Depending on the group we have a few possible endings of the walk (so if you feel you don't fancy walking for 12-13 miles, there is an option to take train back after 8.5)

Meeting point & directions :

We'll meet at Liverpool street train station at 10am to catch the 10:28 train to Cheshunt. If anyone finds it easier to meet us at Cheshunt station, please be there at 11am sharp.(pls let me know before!!) As Cheshunt is just outside the Oyster Pre-pay area, it would be good to take advantage of the group tickets (4 for the price of 2 people).

The length of this walk is 8.5 to Tottenham Hale plus possibly 1.5, 2.5 or 3.5 miles along the canal towards Olympic Park.

We'll head towards Enfield Lock, walking along the canal for about 4.5 miles before a possible stop in a pub for refreshments near Ponders End. We'll then continue towards Tottenham hale, where we can have some warm food in the lovely Ferry Boat Inn pub. (Last time the food was great there) We will continue form there and depending on the weather and on how everyone feels  we can finish in Clapton (rail - 10miles altogether), Hacney Wick (overground - 12 miles altogether) or Bromley by Bow (underground - 13miles altogether).

If the weather turns bad, it is possible to catch the train from Tottenham Hale back to Liverpool street or take the Victoria line if that is more convenient.

What to bring:

- GOOD WALKING SHOES!-especially for the "first time walkers" as 10 miles in high heels is a bad idea:-)

- some snacks & water - there's also a couple of options to get refreshments in a pub.

-  money for drinks&food in the pub for lunch.

- waterproof/raincoat/umbrella:-) depending on the weather forecast (I'll confirm that closer to the day)

- definitely a camera if you have one

-- good mood & sociable attitude

    Morning Jana

Can you confirm if the walk is still on for today? There are lots of flood warnings out, although I don't think they quite extend to where we would be.

Also, as it's a Sunday there are less trains running and some station closures, so I'd need to leave earlier to get to Liverpool Street.

    Thanks

    Dawn

    Hi

I'd really like to join this walk, but I don't have hiking boots. What is the terrain? Would trainers be suitable??

    November 20, 2012

    • Jana C.

Hi Dawn, trainers should be fine,it is a flat walk along the river Lea,it is used a lot for cycling and most of it has been fixed recently(especially before Olympics:-)
