Step into a bygone era where you’ll be served by lords, dine with gold cutlery and taste some truly unique cocktails. Mansion Bar and Parlour bridges the gap between tradition and cutting edge beautifully.
Dreamed up by a couple of Willy Wonka-style visionaries, it’s difficult to believe Mansion bar and Parlour only opened in February 2013. Taking inspiration from its Victorian foundations and surrounding neighbourhood of Earls Court, the mansions theme is charming and well considered. From the sections of the cocktail menu named after former Earls Court residents Freddie Mercury and Alfred Hitchcock, to the baby blue roses dotted around (the mansions were built on an old rose field), the attention the detail is impressively thorough without feeling like overkill. Framed Victorian-style illustrations hang on the walls and lampshades made from bowler hats are suspended over the bar stocked with alcohol popular during the building’s creation. You can choose to watch the action from a comfy leather sofa or plush booth or sit up at the bar where you can catch a glimpse of the showman-style cocktail creations.
The one area that the Victorian theme is not extended to is the atmosphere. The bar feels warm, relaxed, and a welcome escape from the norm. Creativity and innovation radiate from the decor to the menus and feel reflected in the general atmosphere. Talking to staff and management, the sincere passion and abundance of ideas that have gone into making Mansion is obvious. A good example of its attention to detail is the staff’s name badges denoting their lord or lady status. Far from being an empty gimmick, each member of bar staff has been bought a small plot of land so they legally possess the title, making sure guests are really served by members of high society.
