THAMES FESTIVAL - Illuminated Night Carnival with Spectacular Fireworks Display

  • Sep 11, 2011 · 5:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

THIS IS A FREE EVENT NOT TO BE MISSED !!      This is Britain's biggest and best illuminated Night-time Carnival procession.

This is the free centrepiece event of the Mayor's Thames Festival. It is an amazing torchlight parade along the banks of the Thames climaxing in a gigantic fireworks display at 9.45pm. It is pure outdoor theatre. We will watch the parade and fireworks near Blackfriars Bridge (South Side) and along the 'Southbank' where hopefully it will be a relatively less crowded part of the route. We will all meet up beforehand at a reasonably nearby bar (EV Bar which is situated well away from the general public crowds and just 8 mins walk away to the action i.e. the parade and fireworks). I have virtually reserved the whole bar for our group and have agreed a Sunday evening extension to 11.30pm.

The advantage of selecting a bar which is a short walk away from the parade route is that it will not already be too busy before we get there, instead we will virtually have it to ourselves!! .The EV Bar is fairly spacious and has a fairly large outdoor sitting area. I have  booked the venue for the whole evening so people can transverse between the pub and the parade as many times as they like during the evening. The drinks are not expensive here and food can be purchased during the evening as desired.

WE WILL NOT BE ALL HEADING OFF FROM THE BAR IN ONE LARGE GROUP (with over 200 people that just not feasible - therefore we will leave the bar in separate smaller groups as people determine)

SKETCH MAPS will be available showing location of the EV Bar and the Parade, so no one should get lost!! Ask me for a map when you arrive.

EV BAR is situated less than 100 metres behind Southwark Tube Station (Jubilee Line).

Adrian will be Co Hosting this event.

Rough Timetable for the Evening.

Arrive at the pub anytime from 5.00pm onwards.

Leave pub at around 7.15pm in smaller groups (or later as desired) to watch Night Carnival Parade. (please note there is likely to be a time delay between the passing of the parade and the commencement of the fireworks display .i.e. the illuminated parade could have passed by say 8.45pm  (just long enough gap for another drink at the bar!!)

FIREWORKS start at 9.45pm.

Back to EV BAR at 10.15pm for a last drink or two to avoid the worst of the crowds heading off home after the fireworks.

Directions to get to EV Bar from Southwark Station (Jubilee Line).

The EV Bar is not on a main road. It is close to and paralel with the street called 'The Cut'. When on 'The Cut' head for the Anchor and Hope pub (don't go in!!), then turn down the street along the side of this pub and then head for the railway arches, and a green oasis of bars and restaurants will soon come into view on the right

The venue is also directly behind Southwark Tube Station.

Directions on how to get to EV Bar from Waterloo Station

Go down the stairs/escalator opposite platform
4/5 go outside and turn right on Waterloo Road Cross over the
road and then turn left down The Cut opposite the Old Vic
Theatre. Walk for 5 mins past the Young Vic then turn left at
the Anchor & Hope pub into Hatfields Then turn right just
before the blue bridge

Hi all, I'll be helping Ken Sunday. I dont have a pink shirt or glasses. So will be wearing a shirt thats easy to spot as there will be 100's there sunday. I got told that my new shirt makes me look like Alfie from eastenders so look for the shirt in my profile picture if you cant find Ken.

Guys, because of the popularity of this event I have moved to a bigger venue, an old favourite called EV Bar. I have arranged for EV Bar to be open an extra hour until 11.30pm so that we can all have a last drink or two while we avoid the worst of the crowds heading for the stations. EV Bar is also really convenient for getting home as it is less than 100 metres from Southwark tube station (Jubilee Line).

I think we will now need a bigger meetup venue. I will sort that out by Wednesday and keep everyone posted.
