If you want to make a friend and share stories and opinions on a variety of topics, come to the weekly community event, Lifetree Café, at various locations around the California Bay Area. Lifetree Café is a comfortable place to talk and hang out in a casual, coffeehouse-like atmosphere, where there's something new and interesting to consider each week. Admission to the 60-minute meetup is FREE, as are the snacks and beverages.
As of December 1, 2013, there are three branches of Lifetree Café (and more opening soon in Felton, Tracy, and other places!) in the Bay Area:
Lifetree Café San Jose: Mondays 7:00 pm 2175 Lincoln Avenue, San Jose 95125 "We meet in the Willow Glen Community Center."
Lifetree Café Fremont: Tuesdays 7:00 pm 4020 Technology Place, Fremont 94538 "Enter City Beach Cafe lobby, and take the stairs on the right."
Lifetree Café Menlo Park: Wednesdays 6:30 pm, Thursdays 9:15 am 1095 Cloud Avenue, Menlo Park 94025
During each session, a brief video -- usually a personal story or eyewitness account of a historical event -- is used to launch our own conversation and storytelling at the intersection of life, and perhaps faith. Previous topics have been crop circles, body image, curing healthcare, living after suicide, Rwanda, spiritual not religious, financial freedom, Operation Baby Lift, same sex marriage, class warfare, confidence, hurt by church, mystery of music, and so on.
Lifetree Café has a way of letting you warm up to a topic. Before diving deep into conversation, you'll have a couple of opportunities to talk about easy questions. In that way, as you share stories from your childhood with your table group of four, you start to trust that this really is a safe and respectful environment. But it's always fine to just listen if you prefer.
For those who are dating, Lifetree meetups are a great way to get to know important things about your partner's past life, current values, and thoughts about issues and situations. Let Lifetree bring up the relevant topics instead of you. :-)
