We welcome all, of any level of acquaintance with Jacques Lacan!

Know that your founders are twenty something working professionals with no formal education in Lacan. We simply envision a no holds barred, down to earth disucssion of Lacan, as we are quite passionate enthusiasts of this great, interdisciplinary, and far too marginalized thinker.

We're still figuring out the best evening that works for everyone as well as the best venue for the group, but ideally we'll meet once a week at a bar or cafe in San Francisco. We'll discuss passages or other items related to Lacan, and then we'll re-examine life, other thinkers and philosophers, today's various discourses, or really whatever we want through a Lacanian lense.

Btw-- Please email me if you'd like to be added to our google doc and dropbox. We've got resources, baby!

A sample of concepts to talk about (that you'll find straightforward enough...):

Object relations

Semiotics/ Language

Some Freud

The O(o)ther

Desire

Structuralism

Cogito

Jouissance and its types

The Orders

Mirror Stage

Gazes

Subjectivity

And many more!

Why over beers? Why so casual?

-We have no authorities on Lacan in our group, which makes sense. How many authorities on Lacan do you know?

-We aren't knowledgable enough to make this formal.

-Suppression, often caused by formality, distorts the ability to learn!

-"Jouissance of the Beer"

-La(YesWe)can!
