A Laid Back Lively Thanksgiving

  • November 22, 2012 · 3:00 PM

The holidays are by far, my favorite time of year. I love every part of it. I love the smell of the holidays, the decorations, the food, the music- and most of all- I love spending time with my friends and family.

This group has been one of the best things that has happened to me since I moved to Colorado- I am so thankful for you all. Therefore, I would be honored if you would share your Thanksgiving with me. I know that many of us have moved from other places- or perhaps your family has moved away from here.

So join me for a warm, homey celebration...

The fire will be lit. Miracle on 34th Street will be playing in the background (It's tradition- it comes on after the dog show, which comes on after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade). We can cook together. Hang Christmas decorations together (Hey- I'm admittedly a holiday freak)- and enjoy a walk in the autumn sun.

So, please- bring your favorite Thanksgiving side dish- you can bring something that reminds you of Thanksgiving at home, or just something yummy.

Significant others are welcome. Andrew will be coming home in the early evening. He works for the majority of the day, which made my last Thanksgiving a bit empty (and hard work...cooking your entire first Thanksgiving dinner by your lonesome is challenging!)

Feel Free to Come Early!

I feel silly for asking, but where is this being held?

And I'll try to make my grandmother's 24hour fruit salad. It's always been a staple in my family when it comes to thanksgiving dinner.

Hey guys, I am still bringing the greenbeans, rolls and apple pie, but yesterday I bought this honey mead/wine that is good over icecream so I am going to bring ice cream to go with the apple pie ala mode with this honey treat. I can't wait to try it.

Hi Ladies- Any updates on RSVPs? Trying to figure out what additional stuff I might need to make. So far we have the following: two turkeys, corn casserole, gluten free dressing, scalloped potatoes, pumpkin pie and possibly a pecan pie. What else do you think we need? Green beans?

    November 19, 2012

    • Tracy M.

      I love dressing....yeah.

      November 19, 2012

    • Ceci H

Okay, I got green bean casserole fixings, a huge bag of rolls from Costco and and apple pie oh yeah and 2 bottles of sweet wine.

      November 19, 2012

  • Ceci H

Deanna, I am coming. I can bring the green bean casserole, rolls and whatever else strikes my fancy.

      Yay!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think they will come. I am going to do an early dinner with them. I think they would be bored with all the adults and then annoy me. :) I told them if they are good and let me go without any problems, I'd take them to the movies after I get back.

I have some table type chairs that I might be able to get into my little car somehow. Will give it a shot... ;-)

Gosh, Deanna, I just found out that I will be going out of town for the holiday. This came up just this morning. I apologize, I would have loved to have come! Have a very wonderful Thanksgiving to all of you!

  • Kim

Why aren't you signed up Robyn? I want some of that ! :o)

    November 16, 2012

    • Robyn M.

I'll have to make some pumpkin for one of our get-togethers... or did you mean the cider?

      November 16, 2012

    • Tracy M.

      All of it....

      November 17, 2012

  • Robyn M.

Too many people will riot if I don't make stuffed pumpkin, buttered-up turkey, or hot spiced rum buttered cider.

Don't think you should be allowed to post these kind of comments if you are not going to actually bring the items to share with us!!

      November 17, 2012

  • Kelly H.

I work that day and already have plans afterward. If they fall through though, I'd be happy to come.

    November 16, 2012

  • Kim

Unless someone who has the house is making mashed potatoes, it will be impractical for anyone to bring them so I will bring scalloped potatoes and a pumpkin pie.
(Plus gluten free dressing for myself & anyone else who is gluten free)

    November 16, 2012

  • Kim

I am off gluten and dairy so I won't be eating any bread of any sort or dressing but maybe I will bring some gluten free dressing along with whatever else I decide to bring which I haven't made up my mind yet.

    November 14, 2012

  • Tracy M.

Will bring a family recipe for corn casserole and perhaps a dessert maybe chocolate pecan pie? Not allergic to anything...except maybe lima beans, which at technically just yucky..

    November 14, 2012

  • Deanna

Alright ladies- what do we need to know about you? Any food allergies? And what favorite thanksgiving side dish are you bringing? :) Can you believe that Thanksgiving is almost a week away!!

Wonderful! We are looking forward to seeing you too. (Sorry you can't go to FL). I'm going to try my hand at an Apple Bourbon turkey- http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/apple-bourbon-turkey-gravy-50400000117028/ with a bernaise sauce. I saw it in the Southern Living Holiday guide!
