Thomas Hardy is allegedly one of the best English novelists- up there with Dickens and Austen. I say allegedly, because I have never read any of his works. Am I the only one? When I saw that there were cliffnotes and sparknotes for the book- I thought to myself, "Uh oh...This looks like one of those books I should have already read before!"
So here we have it- The Return of the Native:
One of Thomas Hardy's most powerful works.
Here is a pretty glowing review:
"This is a titanic book—reminiscent of Wuthering Heights in that it's one of those great, dark romances where the landscape plays such an important role. I found it impossible not to be swept up in the story of Eustacia Vye and Clym Yeobright. This book is an extraordinary epic that shows human behavior—particularly with regard to love and ambition and jealousy—in its most extreme and passionate forms."
— Kenneth Branagh
And Oprah says that this is a "classic that made a difference." (We will see...I look forward to discussing if that is truly the case."
But here is the really good part- on the Kindle- it's free! (One of the benefits of reading a classic!)
It's also in paperback for less then $9.00 or less then 25 cents used!
I think as the weather begins to change- it seems like a good idea to cuddle up with a classic- What do you think?
