The 17th Annual CowaLUNGa Bike Tour (Larry G)

From the CowaLUNGa website... "CowaLUNGa is a three-day bike tour (with a one-day and a two-day option) held Saturday, August 7 – Monday, August 9, 2010. The ride starts at the Gurnee Mills Shopping Mall and travels into Wisconsin with overnight stops in William's Bay and Whitewater. One-day riders finish the day with dinner in William's Bay and return to Gurnee on Saturday night. Two-day riders finish the ride with dinner in Whitewater and return to Gurnee Sunday night. If you're staying all three days, your journey continues on Monday with a celebration at the finish line in Hubertus, Wisconsin at Camp Minikani. The one-day tour is approximately 65 miles. The two-day tour is approximately 130 miles. The three-day tour is approximately 190 miles. We ride for a reason. All proceeds from the CowaLUNGa Bike Tour benefit our mission — to promote healthy lungs and fight lung disease through research, advocacy, and education.." I did this ride the last two years. It was a great time and I made some great new friends (I expect to see you registered for this...you should know who you are...). I think the others enjoyed the ride too. For those that might be intimidated by hills, I plan to do a "Hills Clininc" earlier in the season. Also, if you register early enough, CowaLUNGa has a few training rides prior to the event. Registration is $25 for one day, $195 for two days, and $220 for all three days. (There is an early bird discount if you register by June 30th and there is half price registration for 2 and 3 day riders who have NEVER done CowaLUNGa before, also by June 30th.) This is a one way ride, so if you need a ride back, they do provide a bus for an additional $25.00. The costs cover breakfast and dinner each day and dorm rooms for each night (which is why the cost jumps so much for the second day). There are rest stops, but you have to provide your own lunch each day (there are plenty of places to stop along the way). In order to ride, you also need to get sponsors to donate to the organization. One-day riders need to raise a minimum of $50. Two and three day riders need to raise a minimum of $295. The registration cost includes breakfast, dinner, rest stops, and accommodations for those riding more than one day. They provide professional movers to transport your bike and gear for you. Gurnee Mills sponsors the event and sets aside a section of Parking Lot G for us to leave our cars. If you are going to participate in this event, YOU MUST REGISTER HERE AND AT THE COWALUNGA WEBSITE!!!! They also make it easy to do all of your fundraising through the website. For any questions feel free to contact me or check out the CowaLUNGa website. http://www.cowalunga.com/index.html
