DPRT Pub 'n Grub ride to The Beer Market

  • Oct 27, 2013 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

No need to set your DVR's, it's the Bear's bye week, so lets go for a Sunday trail ride!

We will meet at Carmel High School and ride the Des Plaines River Trail to The Beer Market in Vernon Hills for some beers and lunch, and watch some football. Meet at 11:00 and be ready to ride at 11:15. This ride will be around 25 miles and hybrid or trail bikes STRONGLY suggested. The trail is hard packed crushed limestone, and for the most part, it will be clear. However, some parts of the trail will have heavy leaf coverage, along with acorns, black walnuts and twigs. If you don't care about a dusty road bike, and are confident with a less than clear trail, bring your road bike! Rolling speed for this ride will be around 13 mph. So bring your friends, and LETS RIDE!!!

Since we will be staying for lunch, don't forget your BIKE LOCK!

On Saturday evening, I will email my cell phone number to all those who have RSVPed "Yes" by that time - if you are not present AND have not contacted me by11:00 am on Sunday, I will assume you are not coming. As always, if you RSVP "Yes" but your plans change, please kindly update your RSVP to "No" on the Meetup site before the scheduled ride time.

Suggested Items to Bring
- Helmet
- Spare Inner Tube
- Portable Air Pump / CO2 Cartridges
- Tire Levers
- Photo ID
- Cash / Debit/Credit Card
- Two Water Bottles
- Sunglasses
- Cell Phone
- BIKE LOCK
- Camera

You are strongly urged to wear a helmet and refrain
from wearing headphones / earbuds while riding.
All cyclists bike at their own risk.

We enjoyed the ride and beautiful weather - great company - 8-10 mi was enough for me!

Meeting at Carmel H.S. - is there a particular spot at that campus? I've not been on a ride from this startpoint, so don't know the regular meetup startpoint.
    thks!

Hi Ellen. What Paul said, the first parking lots on the north side of the school. They are the first lots as you pull in from 176. Just look for the bikes!

Hi Ellen. Sorry you were unable to ride the distance with us today. Hopefully there will be another shorter ride in the future we can all ride together. Glad to see you out on your bike.

Pam: Thanks for organizing. Great ride with great weather. Got to get me a keg of that root beer brew (offered at The Beer Market). Brian, I owe you a sandwich (btw, mine was delicious); Thanks. And, I won't be bummed later this afternoon with the potential of another Bears loss. Life is good.

I am open to the time spent at The Beer Market. There are several places right next door to order food from, since Beer Market is just that, a beer market - no kitchen. I will get the participating eateries prior to the ride. Below is from their website.....
If you crave pizza, sushi, salads, sandwiches, burgers, wings, Italian, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Thai, barbeque, or a steak, this is your place. Through our participating restaurant partners, The Beer Market provided "order in" service from all your local favorites. Check our Menu for a list of participating restaurants and order directly for in-store delivery. They’ll bring your favorite foods right to your seat and we’ll provide your favorite pairing of beer or wine.

Hi Paul. We will be ordering more jerseys/shirts. I will check with the manufacturer on quantities needed for an order. I'll weary jersey, Kathi do you want to wear your tshirt?

    • Kathi T.

Sorry, Paul - I dropped the ball on this one. You and Brian both asked about this and it has been on my to-do list... but I haven't done it :-(. I will try to remember to wear my T tomorrow.

Hope my hybrid can keep up with that 13 MPH after I have been spoiled for a month or so on my road bike. But it may be prudent with the fall leaf litter?

    October 22, 2013

    • John W.

Hi Pam & Kathi.. I do like lifting and moving that road bike around instead of my heavy hybrid around, but I think I will bring the hybrid. Thanks for setting this ride up!

what time do you think we will get back to carmel

    October 22, 2013

    • Pam W.

I'm thinking we stay for about an hour at Beer Market. So figure we'd be back around 2:30 or three. All depends on how quickly we get there.
