Bike the Drive ~ 15 / 30 Mile Options (Public Event)

Registration is now open for Bike the Drive, an awesome ride for new cyclists and veterans alike! Experience great views of the lake, the city's stellar skyline and many thousands of other cyclists celebrating two-wheeled freedom. Your registration supports the Active Transportation Alliance's efforts to make it safer and easier to walk, bike and take transit around Chicagoland.

Check out pics from 2012's ride here.

The ride starts at Columbus Dr & Jackson Blvd with the northern leg ending at Bryn Mawr and the southern leg at 57th Street. Ride either leg - about 15 miles each - or the entire loop for a round-trip total of 30 miles. Feel free to ride the route as many times as you'd like! There will be three rest stops with light snacks and water; SAG vehicles will be available for riders who need support.

The route opens at 5:30am; at 10:15am all cyclists must be off the Drive. Post-ride festival 8am-noon.

Click here to access the Bike the Drive home page and registration information.

Save $8.00 when registering online through Friday, February 1st. You also have the option of registering for a second great ride - the Four Star Bike & Chow, Sunday, August 25th - at the same time. Access the Meetup listing for the Four Star Bike & Chow here.

I will email my cell phone number to all riders who have RSVPed "Yes" by the night before. We can attempt to find each other pre-ride, though it may be difficult based upon the venue, crowds and early start time; however, we can definitely hook-up at the post-ride festival for some chow and live music!

Waiting until Tuesday evening to decide based on rain status. It's already improving, but I want to be more assured since I'd have to take the weekend off.

I'm going to do the ride. Pending wind (supposed to be out of the north at about 10mph, good 2nd half tail wind!), up for 72 to a full 100?

Had a blast, even tho we had to get up so early. Saw a few cars on the road and thought who's crazy enough to be out at 4:15 am???? And then we see the bike in the car. That explains it all!! Great day despite the cooler temps!

The city could put up better signage directing you to parking or where the start was. Other than that, this was a blast

I'm going to be staying in Buffalo Grove, by Lake-Cook & Milwaukee. Can put another bike on the rack if someone needs a lift.

Hey, Bike-the-Drive cyclists! Some of us our driving to the ride in a group, following one another downtown so we're assured of being together before and during the ride. If anyone is interested in joining us, drop a line. We will be leaving EARLY - meeting at 4 am in the parking lot of the Dominick's located at 201 S Waukegan Rd, Lake Bluff and hitting the road no later than 4:15 am! We will be parking in Soldier Field's North Garage at a discounted rate - see http://www.bikethedrive.org/directionsandparking. LSD opens for biking at 5:30 am. Woo hoo!

If you're only going to do one leg, my suggestion would be to head south - more scenic!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
