I found this charity ride for women only! Ride starts in Lake Forest:
http://illinois.venus...

Venus de Miles is a lot of things – Illinois’ first all-women’s road ride, a celebration of sisterhood, support for Greenhouse Scholars, and crazy fun – but one thing it’s not is a race. So, don’t be afraid to walk your bike up that hill, stop to listen to a band, and, most importantly, enjoy yourself. Join us July 29, 2012, for our first year and put your pedal to the mettle.

Venus is for all skill levels and features two courses to accommodate any rider – novice or seasoned. The route maps below are drafts until we receive jurisdictional blessings. Please note that the 61 mile route has a small section of hard packed dirt (trust us, it's worth it, and road bikes will ride on it just fine.)

Wondering what Venus is all about? Check out our video here courtesy of Bill Hanson, or WhiteWave Foods' video from 2011. Check out the latest interviews with your Priestess, Teresa, on Over The Top Radio, or on Dr. Michael Gaeta's show, What We Need To Know.

WHEN & WHERE
All rides begin on July 29, 2012, at Lake Forest College, at the Glen Rowan House, 500 N Sheridan Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045. Plan to park your bike and join us after the ride for the post-ride festival.

LAKE FOREST
Beautiful in any season, the community of Lake Forest, Illinois, is located 31 miles north of the City of Chicago on the west shore of Lake Michigan. It is recognized for its natural beauty, sensitivity to open space and preservation of its historic structures and landscapes. Vibrant business districts, including the historic and charming Market Square, welcome residents and visitors alike. Chartered in 1861, The City of Lake Forest is home to prestigious businesses and residential locations and offers many excellent schools and cultural opportunities.

THE FINE PRINT
Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable - Venus de Miles is a rain or shine event.

START TIMES
Get there early. We’ll have plenty of breakfast treats and activities before the ride start. You’ll even have a chance to meet some of the inspiration behind the ride – the Greenhouse Scholars.

Each course will offer waves of up to 250 riders with five minute increments.

COST FOR ALL COURSES
→ $79 On or before 4/1
→ $89 On or before 7/1
→ $99 On or before 7/22
→ $129 The Day Of The Ride

I just wanted to give a shout out to all the ladies that will be riding Venus de Miles. My name is Amanda and I am from Rockford, IL. I am heading out to VdM by myself and would love to meet some cyclists from the area.

I am signed up for the 60 mile route and I ride in the 12-14 mph range. I am looking forward to the event, it really sounds like it is going to be a great time! If you are interested in meeting up with me at the event let me know :)

You can volunteer as one of the "men in drag" but you've gotta "dress up"!!!! or here are lots of other volunteer areas.......
This is the first inaugural ride, so I'm sure any help will be appreciated

Looking For A Few Good Men
Venus de Miles is looking for volunteers for our Men in Drag mechanical team!

Being a Man in Drag isn’t just about putting on a skirt, it’s about getting on the road in support of the women in your life and Greenhouse Scholars. Do you know someone who has what it takes? To be a Venus de Miles Man in Drag you must:

• Have a bike and know how to ride it – safely
• Have a killer outfit and know how to work it
• Be able to perform basic bike maintenance
• Pay the $25 registration fee

Interested Men in Drag application:

and email it to Peter Hornbein
