January blogger meetup

The weather forecast was too formidable to call for a meeting last week, so let's try for this coming Monday. External conditions and circumstances affect us in many ways, and that can include the way we blog.

Some of us blog about subjects that are timeless. For instance one can share a recipe for bacon cupcakes and know it will be just as valid next year as it is today. But if you blog about the news or weather you need to react to things that are happening now. If you review a play whose run ended 3 months ago it probably won't garner as much attention, because people can no longer attend the show.

That said, timing is still relative for both scenarios. Bacon and cupcakes have been very popular for the past few years, but 20 years back bacon cupcakes may have seemed strange. Ten years from now we won't be able to attend that play you reviewed, but it may be of interest to those who were in the performance or for those with a scholarly interest in Cleveland theater.

Whether our topics are time-sensitive or not, they will remain on our blogs and come to be part of an historical record of our thoughts. So this month let's talk about how timing or other influences impact our subject matter.

The location:
The Barking Spider Tavern is in the heart of University Circle. If the weather is nice we'll sit outside, if not we'll sit in the back room.

Here are a few things to know:

The Spider doesn't sell food, but you can bring your own pizza or snacks (excluding chips and pretzels, which they do sell.)
They offer an array of beverages including beer, wine, pop, juice, coffee, tea, iced-tea and bottle water. Please don't bring your own coffee.

There is a new parking lot on Bellflower behind the Spider. Look at this Google map for parking options. (You can park in the Coffeehouse lot.)

The Barking Spider is cash only, but they have an ATM in the back room. Wifi is available through Case Western Reserve University using the username and password "caseguest."

We hope to see you there!
