2014 Spring Slimey Crud Run

There are no big ad campaigns, no corporate sponsors, no official website, no local or regional newspaper or TV promotions, not even the usual obligatory one-size-promotes-all beer banners with the name of the event emblazoned on a huge blank white spot.

Despite all the makings of what should be an unknown event, the Slimey Crud Café Racer Run in southern Wisconsin is attended twice each year, on the first Sunday in May and October, by riders from all over the country and routinely has participants from at least five states in the upper Midwest.

We meet for breakfast. Load up on caffeine, carbs and high fructose sugars, and then ride.

BTW-I had my bike back together by Wednesday night, thanks to Gorilla glue and Mike at Rivco. Total expenditure? About $2.50. Bent motor mount bolt and a few washers. Mid fairing is $303 retail, and the ones I found on fleabay looked worse than what I had. One of the tip over mounts was pretzeled badly, I spent an hour and broke my vice straightening it. It was about 95% good, but my son located a replacement, so it's all good! Put 95 miles on today with my wife visiting our mother's graves and having lunch. Life is good!

    Hi Mike,

We sent the posse out for you and Gary. Gary came back after an argument with gravity. None of us had cell phone coverage in Leyland. So I only got this message when I got home. Home you made it home OK.

Guess I missed it. Oh well, home safe now. Hope Gary got home alright too, his bike was a little beat up, but then I lost him too.

Mike-thanks so much for helping me out. I thought you were going to turn around, as we were only, what, a mile from Leland? I'm really stiff and sore. I don't know if it's from pitched like a rag doll, or lifting and pushing that heavy pig back onto the road. Thanks all for a great day!!!

Great route, pace was perfect for me. Getting up at 5:30am to join the group on time was worth it :-)

Another great opportunity for my first ride with this group. Alas, my wife and I will be returning from Deal's Gap that day, so no slime nor crud for us. Have fun!

Matt there is much more great riding down there besides the dragon. A lot of great roads with way less traffic. If you can visit wheels thru time museum in Maggie Valley.

Thanks for the tips, Mike. You're the second person to recommend Wheels Thru Time so I think I should add it to our list of points of interest. We are definitely hitting several other roads while down there. :)
