Lake Pontchartrain Sailors Association will be a truly unique organization, chartered especially for people who have an interest in sailing. Everyone from novices to experienced sailors are welcome. Whether you want to learn to sail or crew on various sailboats, there is something for everyone regardless of your personal sailing experience and knowledge. We sail on Wednesday evenings from the New Orleans Yacht Club in West End. You should get there as early as you can (5:30 is a good time to get on the list and get a boat), racing starts at 7PM. WE CANNOT CHANGE THE DAY OR TIME OF THIS. IF YOU CAN NOT MAKE IT AT THAT TIME I AM SORRY.
It will be formed in February 2012. LPSA will be unique in that, unlike most clubs, we are not in the charter business. We do not try to make money off our membership. The member ship dues are used for the group it is not used for salaries.
LPSA owns no boats. We use boats owned by our members or those that are in need of hands for racing during the Wednesday Night Regattas, and other regattas during the year.
LPSA is not a "boat ride club" nor is it a "dating club". Everyone who goes out becomes a working crew member. We wish to attract only those people who have a genuine interest in sailing and improving their sailing skills. Beginners are always welcome.
Our Skippers and members will coordinate sails, raft ups, lunch and dinner sails, and overnight trips to such locations as Madisonville, Fountainebleau State Park, Eden Isle, Bay St Louis, and other areas on the lake. Opportunities for two, three and four day cruises to Biloxi Bay, Pascagoula, and Dauphin Island and beyond will come up from time to time. Some of our members are interested in racing and, if you've never tried it, I can tell you - it's a lot of fun and very exciting! The Wednesday night Racing series can be a lot of fun whether you sail in them, or stay on the point and watch or have dinner while watching the races. As a member of LPSA, you can access these events.
While the development of a safe and experienced crew of sailors is an important goal, we have fun doing other things, too. Trips other than sailing and other activities are planned by our members. These include ski trips, river rafting, camping, pool parties, and trips to the city, dinner parties and other events.
"Is LPSA for me and do I qualify?" If you like to sail, get out on the water and you are single, whether you never been on a boat or already a knowledgeable sailor - you qualify. If you want to sail at a very low cost and have fun times with other like-minded single sailors in an active organization, then LPSA is for you.
