My name is Shirley Duran. I am a native Californian, born in La Jolla. I live in Oceanside, now. I started with painting in elementary school. Then moved on to beading, wire art, knitting, and anything you can think of.
I do several types of art. From painting with oil, acrylics, watercolors, etc. to beading, and wire art and crafts. I spend most of my time doing wirework with lampwork beads which I have purchased from other artists. I sell mostly wirework jewelry. My mother once told me that once I get good at one thing, I move on to something else! She was disappointed when I stopped painting, I think.
I have only had 2 classes at Mira Costa College, so I am a beginner. The class was huge and the teacher, not so good. I did, however, buy a nice torch. I think they were about 4 hours each. I also had 2 glass slumping classes for the same amount of time. Both were lots of fun!
I need classes.
Maybe eventially. I taught one class in wire wrapping when I was visiting Texas. It was a small class that my relatives asked me to teach. I did enjoy it, though, but I don't have any more experience. I would need to provide tools, or request a tools and materials list to be purchased at the class. Something like that.

Glass Bead Workers of San Diego is an excellent group. I would advise anyone with an interest in glass bead making, glass blowing, etc. to take her classes, or let her know what specifically you are interested in. She has lots of experience in this field. GO FOR IT!!! You can't miss!!!
It is nice to here from you. We are a group of students that meet at different homes to practice performing music that we are working on learning. If you are interested in learning we could recommend teachers to you that I've worked with. Also, if you don't have a piano, an inexpensive keyboard is often great for beginners.
