Night Ride to the Pagoda and Dinner, Part 2

The Pagoda, located atop Mt. Penn is a historical landmark that has served as a shining beacon for Greater Reading for more than 100 years. It is owned, loved and cared for by the city and citizens of Reading, Pennsylvania. Visitors from around the world come to see the Pagoda. This out-of-place and yet extraordinary building has an unforgettable view and is a comforting sight for many, especially the red glow of lights at night.

To generations of residents, the Pagoda is a sure sign of home.

We will leave from Charlie's Fuel and Deli at 1634 WEST MAIN STREET, Ephrata, PA 17522 at 6:30 pm. We will stop and meet with others at Paolo's Family Restaurant at 2480 Lancaster Pike, Reading, PA 19607 and leave at 7:15pm. From there, onward to the Pagoda. We should arrive shortly before 8pm. I don't know how long we will stay at the Pagoda, but when everyone is finished oohing and aweing, we will head to Johnny & Hon's in Robesonia for food and talk.  Here is a link for the route from Charlie's to Paolo's.

More details to follow. I just wanted to get this posted as early as possible.

As soon as I receive feedback regarding a date to schedule the ride, I will update this post.

It was great to finally get on the bike after a month of not riding. It was also great to share that ride and eat with Whip, Carl, and Lisa. And for some reason the pagoda looked really small...

It was great getting together with Greg and Whip especially when we BS and eat. A little chilly on the way home and the view of the Pagoda from a distance kept us that much warmer. Thanks guys!

I am a maybe at this point - I have drill this weekend but may have Saturday evening free. It depends on what activities are scheduled for Saturday. I'll know closer to the 14th.

I can't believe I screwed up and have tickets to go away on the 14th. I'm so sorry that this happened. I failed to check my calender and jumped at these tix. I hope this doesn't spoil the ride.I really was looking forward to doing the ride.

Greg, any chance you might be able to attend on the 14th of September with advanced notice?

I'm working on it Carl. I still don't know at this point which direction everything is headed.

John, the date that Greg mentioned was something we kicked around back in July. That date won't work for me now. The 14th sounds good for me if everyone else agrees. We can change the time to start earlier since it's getting dark earlier. Maybe, depart Charlie's at 6:30 and meet you folks at Paolo's at 7:00. Then onward to the Pagoda...
    Your thoughts?

That sounds like a plan, Carl. I can't think of anything to add.

How about August 24 with August 31 as a rain date?

    July 24, 2013

    • Carl

That will work for us as for the 24th. The 31st would not due to it being Labor Day weekend. Lets be positive and pray for no rain...

Carl, what is this on the 24th about? I thought we were talking a Sept date for Pagoda. Did Greg start something and now we're changing gears??

      August 20, 2013

"How does Sat. Sept. 14 sound. I'm not sure where we would start from. Carl suggested early evening ride." This is referring to a ride to the Pagoda. I'm really not sure what Greg is talking about on the 24th.

so the above info about leaving from Charie's and going to Johnny & Hon's is not for this Sat the 24th?

How does Sat. Sept. 14 sound. I'm not sure where we would start from. Carl suggested early evening ride.

Their events calendar is back. It looks like any Saturday is good through November except August 17. The writers and painting workshops are finished at 4pm so that is a non-issue. Here is a link: http://www.readingpagoda.com/activities.html

    July 17, 2013

    • greG

When their events calendar comes back online we should be able to choose a Saturday. If it doesn't come back soon, I will call them.

      July 17, 2013

  • greG

I vote for a Saturday night. We need to check their calendar, assuming they have one, to be sure it is not being used for a private party. Their site is down at the moment. I will try to remember to look later.

Sounds good Greg, I'm in agreement with you.
