Woods Walk Tour & Fireside Pot Luck

  • January 4 · 10:00 AM
  • Laura Lynne's Land

We have a really neat group of people and I would love to connect by doing a walking tour of the Land and a yummy potluck by the fireplace.  We have some trails and I often go off trail as there are parts of the 70 acres I have never hiked, so be prepared if we feel called to explore a little. Our last stop before potluck is the Tree House it is always a favorite. Be sure to be on time as once we head into the woods it's sometimes tough to find us.

It will be great to hear your ideas and visions that move you.  Our Lean-To is still leaning and ready for completion. The basic structure is up so if we feel inspired we may kick some sticks into place and cover it with cedars.  If you were staying in the Lean-To you would have watched deer and turkey cruise by in the first snow of the season. I love tracking animals.

We have a primitive under rehab building with a wood burning stove and fireplace (still a little chilly).  Our kitchen is just make-shift enough to satisfy the soul. We even have indoor plumbing. 3 buildings need to come down and thus free materials to recycle and re-purpose for projects on the Land.

If there are pyro-men or women who like fires they may build a campfire for s'mores.

You will be greeted by our crew of friendly animals - please leave yours at home.

BRING:  Cozy pot luck item and whatever you wish to drink.  Our well water is untested so water bottles are always appreciated. Feel free to bring a friend, the more the merrier. We love your creativity, stories and open heart.

WEAR: Bring your hunters orange if you have it - it's still deer season.  Warm layers, hiking boots, gloves and hat, we will be outside for a couple of hours unless it's crazy cold. I am still amazed how many people forget these basics in the woods. Better to be hot than cold.

DON'T BRING: High heels, your dog or drugs.

People love to settle in and relax, so feel free to stay as long as you wish...some bring their toothbrush!

With Love,

Laura Lynne

Walking in the woods on a snowy day, warming up by the fire and enjoying good food with people who love the outdoors. Wonderful!

This was a super group of people with a wonderful plethora of ideas and creativity, in addition to culinary skills. Thank you for joining us on the Land for the tour and potluck. I have set up monthly gatherings on the first weekend of the month and will be posting more adventures soon. We still have our lean to that wants to be completed and who is up for taking a building down???

Thank You Laura Lynne for showing us your property. Thank you to everyone else for the wonderful food, great conversation and a really nice day together. It's always nice to learn new things from others on the subject of living more naturally. Laura, I look forward to the links. I posted a couple pics of the group.

I'm bringing persimmon bread and apple butter. The persimmons were picked from Laura Lynne's trees!

Boots I have. Snowshoes are a different story. Fortunately it didn't get very deep... but that's gonna change this weekend... good thing we're getting this out of the way early in the day.

If anyone in the group is interested in a starter culture of milk kefir grains, LMK. I just transferred mine and I am getting too much for just me. At that point you are suppose to "pass it on". You have to feed it every day, but it's great to balance intestinal flora, especially if you deal with diverticulitis like I do. It's just a Good Gut thing. If interested, email me and I will bring it along.

Coming with the friend that introduced me to the group. May stay behind and keep food warm, but want to learn more about your reason for this group. Will bring either a chili or a miso-rice soup.

Yes Kathleen, there are some outlets in the cabin where the kitchen is.

Thanks Lakshmi, I decided to stay on safe side & go with chili since I was not sure some would like the tofu in my miso rice soup (or know what it was... ;-)..sorry my friend) Hopefully my chili is safe. I like spices. It will definitely warm you after being in the cold. I have a full crockpot. Should feed all of us a bowl. Have bowls and spoons too.

I will definitely sing Happy B-Day to Andy. Maybe sometime in the future I can bring my 3 grand boys out. Asher (who just turned 6, middle boy) says he's going to be an entomologist. He would be in heaven out there I am sure. We always have to go to the creek when they are at my house, look for bugs, arrowheads, fossils and skulls. Found all but the arrowheads so far.

I'd love to walk the creek and look for little caves. It's easy to spot them at this time of the year. If it's cold enough outside they actually breathe steam.

I love that Laura, I found a small little hole that had an exit too designed for splunking ground hogs. I would love to clear the creek this winter of branches so we can walk it in the Spring.
